Onyx's POV:

The following days were a blur of emotions, filled with a constant undercurrent of anxiety. Cammy and I tried to maintain a semblance of normalcy, but the shadow of my past loomed ever larger. I knew it was only a matter of time before it caught up with us.

That moment arrived sooner than I expected. One afternoon, as Cammy and I were leaving school, I noticed two figures leaning against my car. My heart sank as I recognized them: Mason and Marco, old friends turned gang members, their faces hard and unforgiving.

"Stay close," I whispered to Cammy, my hand tightening around hers as we approached.

"Onyx," Mason greeted with a cold smile. "Long time no see."

"What do you want?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.

Marco stepped forward, his eyes narrowing as he looked at Cammy. "We've heard some interesting things about you, Onyx. Seems you've gone soft."

I felt Cammy stiffen beside me, and I stepped slightly in front of her. "Leave her out of this. Whatever you have to say, say it to me."

Mason chuckled darkly. "That's the problem, Onyx. We can't leave her out of it. See, you've got two options. Either you break up with her and come back to the gang, or we make things very difficult for her."

Rage and fear churned inside me. "You wouldn't dare."

Marco's expression turned deadly serious. "Oh, we would. And you know we can. So what's it gonna be, Onyx? Your girl or your freedom?"

Cammy squeezed my hand, her eyes wide with fear and confusion. I wanted to protect her, to keep her safe from the nightmare my life had become. But the ultimatum Mason and Marco presented left me with an impossible choice.

"Let me think," I said, my voice trembling.

Mason leaned in, his smile returning. "You don't have much time, Onyx. We'll be in touch."

With that, they turned and walked away, leaving me standing there, grappling with the weight of their threat. Cammy looked at me, tears welling up in her eyes.

"Onyx, what are we going to do?"

I pulled her into my arms, holding her tightly. "I'll figure something out. I promise. Just... trust me."

But as I held her, my mind raced with fear and guilt. I knew what I should do, the only way to keep her safe. But the thought of losing her, of breaking her heart, tore at me.

As we stood there, the world around us seemed to blur, and a single, haunting thought echoed in my mind: How can I protect the one I love without destroying everything we've built?

The answer, whatever it was, seemed agonizingly out of reach, and the path forward was shrouded in uncertainty.
