CAMMY POV:

The fire alarm still echoed in my ears as I sat at my desk, trying to focus on my homework. The day had been a rollercoaster of emotions, and my mind kept drifting back to the confrontation with James. No matter how hard I tried to push it aside, his words lingered like a dark cloud over my thoughts.

My phone buzzed on the desk, pulling me from my reverie. It was a message from Onyx: "Hey, can we talk later? I have some things on my mind."

I stared at the message, my heart skipping a beat. What could be on his mind? I wondered if it had something to do with James or if it was something more personal. Taking a deep breath, I replied, "Of course. Do you want to come over?"

A few minutes later, his response came: "Yeah, I'll be there in about an hour."

I set my phone down, feeling a mix of anticipation and anxiety. Onyx had always been a bit of a mystery to me, and while I was eager to support him, I couldn't help but worry about what he wanted to discuss. Pushing those thoughts aside, I decided to tidy up my room a bit, hoping to distract myself.

Time seemed to drag on, but finally, I heard a knock at the door. I hurried downstairs to let Onyx in, my heart pounding in my chest. He stood there, looking more serious than usual, his eyes reflecting the weight of whatever was on his mind.

"Hey," I greeted him, trying to keep my voice steady. "Come on in."

We went up to my room, and I closed the door behind us. Onyx took a seat on the edge of my bed, and I sat beside him, the silence between us heavy with unspoken thoughts.

"So," I began, not sure how to start the conversation. "What's on your mind?"

He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "It's been a tough day, Cammy. After everything with James, I went to my mom's for dinner. It just... brought up a lot of stuff I've been trying to deal with."

I reached out and took his hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. "You can talk to me about it. I'm here for you."

He looked at me, his expression softening. "It's just... my parents' divorce. It's still affecting me more than I like to admit. Family dinners are always tense, and it feels like I'm caught between their expectations and my own desires."

I nodded, understanding the complexity of his situation. "That sounds really tough. It's hard when you're trying to balance what they want with what you need."

"Exactly," he said, his shoulders relaxing a bit. "And then there's school, and now James... it's all just piling up. Sometimes, I feel like I can't breathe."

I leaned closer, resting my head on his shoulder. "I'm sorry you're going through this, Onyx. I know it's not easy, but you're not alone. We can figure this out together."

He wrapped his arm around me, pulling me into a comforting embrace. "Thanks, Cammy. I don't know what I'd do without you."

We sat like that for a while, the silence between us no longer heavy but filled with a sense of solidarity. I could feel the tension in his body slowly easing, and I hoped my presence was helping him find some peace.

After a while, he pulled back slightly, looking into my eyes. "I don't want to let James or my family issues come between us. Being with you... it makes everything else seem a bit more bearable."

I smiled, feeling a warmth spread through my chest. "We won't let them. We'll face whatever comes our way together."

He nodded, his expression determined. "Yeah, together."

As the evening wore on, we talked about lighter things, sharing stories and laughter that felt like a balm to our souls. The weight of the day's events began to lift, replaced by a sense of hope and connection.

Before Onyx left, he hugged me tightly, and I whispered, "Remember, I'm always here for you."

He kissed my forehead, a tender gesture that made my heart flutter. "And I'm here for you too, Cammy."

As I watched him walk away, I felt a renewed sense of strength. Whatever challenges lay ahead, I knew we could face them together. With Onyx by my side, I was ready to embrace the future, no matter what it held.
