ONYX POV:
The knocking echoed through the house, each bang a reminder of the mess I had dragged Cammy into. My heart pounded in my chest, and anger boiled within me. I was furious—at myself, at my old friends, at the choices that had led us here.
"Stay behind me," I whispered to Cammy, feeling a wave of protectiveness and regret. She nodded, her eyes wide with fear but resolute. She didn't deserve any of this. Dating her had been selfish. I knew I wasn't good enough for her, and now she was in danger because of me.
I opened the door, and there they were—three of my old friends, faces hardened by years of trouble. The one in front, Marco, smirked as he looked me over.
"Onyx," he said, his voice dripping with mockery. "Long time no see. We need to talk."
"What do you want, Marco?" I asked, my voice low and controlled, though my hands clenched into fists.
He glanced past me, eyes landing on Cammy. "So, this is the girl who's got you all domesticated. Cute."
"Leave her out of this," I snapped, stepping forward. "Whatever you have to say, say it to me."
Marco laughed, shaking his head. "Always the tough guy. Look, we heard you left the gang, but we didn't expect you to turn into a soft, lovesick puppy. We just want to make sure you remember where you came from. And who you owe."
"I don't owe you anything," I growled, my anger rising. "I left that life behind. I'm done."
"Yeah, well, some of us aren't done with you," Marco said, his expression darkening. "You think you can just walk away and play house with your little girlfriend here? It's not that easy."
I could feel Cammy's eyes on me, and I hated myself more with every second. She didn't deserve this, and it was all my fault. Dating her, bringing her into my world—it had been selfish, reckless. I knew I wasn't good enough for her, and now she was paying the price.
"Look, Marco," I said, trying to keep my voice steady. "I'm not the same person I was. I've changed. Just leave us alone."
"Changed, huh?" Marco sneered. "We'll see about that. You owe us, Onyx, and you don't just walk away from that."
He took a step closer, and I felt the tension in the air thicken. "If you think you can just leave, you're mistaken. We can make things very difficult for you and your little girlfriend."
"Don't threaten her," I said, my voice shaking with barely controlled rage. "This is between us. Leave her out of it."
Marco laughed again, a cold, mirthless sound. "You're in no position to make demands, Onyx. Remember that."
Before I could respond, he turned and walked away, his cronies following him. I slammed the door shut, my heart pounding with a mix of fear and fury.
"Onyx, what are we going to do?" Cammy asked, her voice trembling.
I turned to her, feeling a wave of guilt crash over me. "I'm so sorry, Cammy. This is all my fault. I never should have dragged you into this. I thought I could leave that life behind, but it seems like it won't let me go."
She reached out and took my hand, her touch grounding me. "We'll figure it out together. But you need to tell me everything, Onyx. No more secrets."
I nodded, swallowing hard. "There's more you need to know. The worst part of it all. But I didn't want to tell you because I was afraid you'd hate me."
She squeezed my hand tighter, her eyes searching mine. "I need to know, Onyx. Whatever it is, we'll face it together."
I took a deep breath, the weight of my past pressing down on me. "Alright," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "I'll tell you everything. But it's not going to be easy to hear."
As I began to speak, the gravity of what I was about to reveal settled over us like a dark cloud. The worst was yet to come, and I only hoped that Cammy could find it in her heart to forgive me.
