As I stood there, feeling the weight of Onyx's words settle over me, a strange sense of calm washed over my initial shock. I knew Marco and Mason from the whispers around school and the warnings from friends who knew better than to get involved with them. They were trouble, the kind that dragged others down with them. And now, they were targeting Onyx because of me.

"I can't believe this," I whispered, more to myself than to Onyx. "Why would they do this?"

Onyx looked torn, his expression a mix of anger and guilt. "Because they can't stand the idea of me leaving the gang. They see it as a betrayal. And you... you're the reason I wanted to change."

His words should have filled me with warmth, but instead, they only heightened my sense of dread. "So what are we going to do?" I asked, my voice trembling slightly.

Onyx took a deep breath, his eyes searching mine. "I'm going to figure something out. I won't let them hurt you, Cammy. I promise."

I believed him. Despite everything, I knew Onyx would do anything to protect me. But I also knew the danger was real, and the fear gnawed at me.

"What if... what if you just told them we broke up?" I suggested hesitantly. "Maybe that would be enough to keep them away."

Onyx shook his head, frustration clear on his face. "It's not that simple. They'd still come after me, and if they found out we were lying, it would be even worse. They need to believe I've gone back to the gang for real."

The thought of Onyx rejoining that life, even for a lie, made my stomach churn. "But that means you're putting yourself in danger."

"I know," he said softly, reaching out to take my hand. "But it's the only way to keep you safe."

Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes. "I don't want you to do this, Onyx. There has to be another way."

He pulled me into a tight embrace, and I could feel the tension in his body. "I'll find a way to make this right," he murmured into my hair. "I promise."

As we stood there, clinging to each other, a sudden knock on the door shattered the fragile moment. We both tensed, and Onyx pulled away slightly, his eyes darting toward the entrance.

"Stay here," he whispered, moving toward the door with cautious steps.

I watched, my heart pounding, as he opened the door just a crack. The next moment, the door was shoved open, and Mason and Marco stood there, their expressions cold and menacing.

"Well, well, look who we have here," Mason sneered, his gaze flicking between Onyx and me. "How touching."

Onyx stepped in front of me, his stance protective. "What do you want?"

Marco smirked, crossing his arms over his chest. "We told you what we want, Onyx. You either break up with her and come back to the gang, or she gets hurt. It's your choice."

A chill ran down my spine, and I grabbed Onyx's arm, my grip tightening. "Please," I whispered, barely audible. "Don't do this."

Onyx's jaw clenched, his eyes never leaving Mason and Marco. "You need to leave," he said, his voice steady but filled with underlying rage.

"Or what?" Mason taunted, taking a step forward. "You think you can protect her from us? Think again, Onyx."

The tension in the room was palpable, and I could see the internal struggle in Onyx's eyes. He was caught between his love for me and the dangerous reality of his past.

"Just give us your answer," Marco said, his tone cold. "Time's running out."

I held my breath, waiting for Onyx to speak, my heart pounding in my chest. The choice he made now would change everything.

The room seemed to close in around us as we waited for Onyx's response, the weight of the moment hanging heavily in the air.
