Fruit and Injuries... Also Grounding

Eating the abandoned fruit, Jack chuckles a bit. "Good thing that prick's head was so thick, perfect to crack these shells open."

Prying the protective outer layer off of the fruit he takes a bite out of the meaty inside. The very outer layer of the meat was slightly yellow but when you got deeper into the inside it was practically pure white. The sweetness made him moan. These were the best fruit he had ever tasted in both his first and second life. It was so juicy too! He actually had to wipe the liquid dripping off of his chin as he thanked whatever god that made these things for making them so damn good but also so big! It was almost twice the size of his head! The shell only took up about 2 inches of the diameter of the oval fruit.

What even ate these things? The only time he could get the shell open was when he found a tall tree and a big rock to drop it on. They were good though. When he is finished he looks at the sun and figures he has a little bit of time for training. He would try to focus on strength today... but where to train? Many of the fallen logs and large rocks around here were used to help him escape his canine pursuer.

"Maybe I can move closer to the fruit trees? They are almost picked clean of anything edible but I think there was a few larger boulders in the vicinity."

Making his way through the forest he finds a few different areas that could work... if they weren't filled with monsters that were multiple times his level. Maybe that prick from a while back was incompetent but he wasn't taking the same chance with these guys.

Yeah after seeing the last one he slowly started moving away from the area. Instead, moving a little bit in the other direction where there seemed to be slightly less powerful things that would want to kill him.

Soon Jack finds a barren patch with nothing growing out of it. The soil is hard and rocky but also horrifically dry. Any amount of wind kicks up dust and sand in the area and from the smell he can tell nothing has moved in or out of this location in a while.

It was near the edge of the warren's territory but it was still inside. Just slightly beyond the fruit trees. That was good, it meant he was in the clear to dig as far as he was concerned. He was far enough away from the monsters that he didn't have to worry about it.

Jack takes a breath before he starts digging. Using his tough claws to his advantage, the buck works his way through the cracked earth. Ripping through clumps of baked clay and silt he can tell the area used to be fertile. He couldn't tell what could have caused it to become barren but it didn't appear that he was in any danger. It wasn't until things started moving inside of the dirt that he figured that this wasn't the best idea.

Bursting out of the ground, a pair of gnashing pincers. Jumping out of the hole he had made, Jack watches as a giant beetle bursts out of the ground. It was almost the size of a great dane! The only thing that was bigger than one was its own abdomen.

The mandibles click and snap as a reddish substance leaks from the mouthparts of the insect. Before he can really react the beetle sprays a red mist at him. Quickly finding that upon touching his arm the substance burns through the fur and starts to eat at his skin.

Backing off, Jack finds that the insect isn't content with just running him off.

The Acidic Beetle rushes forward, charging at the hare as he tries to retreat. Snatching a rock from the ground, Jack throws it at the open mouth of the beast. Delicate moving parts of the mandibles crackle and snap as the creature hisses. Grabbing the club from his back he lunges forward and brings it down on the hard shell of it's head.
