Aiden laughed, or rather, cackled as Ashlyn carried him back inside the castle to take him to see the castle medic. Doctor Alex, she remembered the name. She had to see him once a year back for the scar on her arm. What a strange creature that was....
She shook her head. Best not to dwell on it.
Aiden looked up at her like she was the most interesting thing in the world. What a fascinating thing. She was so strong for someone her size, and it delighted him whenever she showed her strength. She was fascinating. A puzzle waiting to be solved.
His puzzle he couldn't help but want to solve.
And he wouldn't let anyone else solve it before him.
"Soooo..." He started, interest peaked. "Why'd you decide to become a knight?"
"You asked me that already," Ashlyn pointed out.
"And yet you never answer," Aiden said, grinning.
"Because it's none of your business. I'm here to serve and just do my job. That's it," Ashlyn snapped. Seriously, not even 8 yet and her patience was already wearing thin with him.Aiden hummed. "...pretty strong for someone your size. Why's that?"
"What part of, none of your business, do you not understand?" Ashlyn scowled.
Aiden thought for a moment. "Hmmm.....the second part."
Ashlyn sighed. "I'm going to drop you and leave you to crawl to the infirmary yourself.""Jokes on you! I would just walk!" Aiden cackled.
Ashlyn groaned. Had it not been her literal job on the line, she would've ditched him ages ago.Eventually, they made it to the infirmary. Doctor Alex, a man with shoulder length hair pulled back in a tight bun, sighed.
"Your highness, again?" He asked, taking the boy from Ashlyn's arms.Aiden shrugged. "I was bored."
"You were in the infirmary not even a few hours ago. I think you're setting a record." Alex snorted in annoyance as he put Aiden down on a cot.
Ashlyn sighed. "Well now that I brought him here, can I go? I have something to do."
Alex nodded, but Aiden went pouty.
"Whaaa? Stay! I need moral support!"
"You need mental support!" Alex snapped back, whacking Aiden on the back of the head. "You can go, Lady Ashlyn."
Ashlyn nodded. "Oh and Alex? It's just Ashlyn. None of that lady crap, please?"
Alex nodded in understanding. Ashlyn sighed and turned on her heel, only to be met with Tyler coming in.
"Ow...! Watch where you're going carrot top..!"
Ashlyn scowled. "Watch where you're going jerk-wad!"
Tyler grunted. "Oh my apologies. You were so short I couldn't see you there. Might wanna try taller boots so you're not tripped over all the time"
Ashlyn glared at Tyler. "Or I might try heeled boots so I can kick you in your crown—"
"Ahem!"
Tyler and Ashlyn both flinched, looking up at Alex with an apologetic look on their faces.
"Sorry Dr.Alex..!" They apologized, shimming out the door.Tyler sighed. "Sooo.....are you going to see them today too?"
Ashlyn sighed. "I was. But now that you're going as well, I don't know much how I feel about it."
Tyler grunted. "You can't avoid them forever."
Ashlyn scowled. "I'm not avoiding them."
Tyler rolled his eyes. "You are. You're so melodramatic. You screwed up once, Carrot for brains. I'm sure they don't hold it against you."
Ashlyn looked away. Tyler scowled.
"Let me rephrase. He doesn't hold it against you. He's too nice for that." Tyler snapped. "So quit being a self pitying idiot and just go see him already. You two are like siblings, are you not?"
Ashlyn looked at her hands, the scar on her forearm seemingly mocking her with the incident.
".....it's kind of hard too when someone you hold dear to you almost died because of you."Tyler sighed, looking away. It wasn't like she blamed Ashlyn. None of them had really been the same since the incident.
"Still though. He misses you. Why do you insist on being so stubborn and avoiding him? It's doing more harm than good."
Ashlyn sighed. ".....I.."

"Whew!" Logan grunted as he rolled his shoulder. Jeez he had to be more careful with his right side. Especially because....Well, let's just say having his side ripped open by a creature in the woods is...
Less than ideal.
Logan sighed, looking at the books sprawled out on his desk.
He would find out what that creature was.
He had too.
Before it was too late.
