Chapter 29: Ruins

"...Lyn!"

Ashlyn groaned. Her head throbbed in her head, threatening to pass out again. She rubbed her temples. Fabric? No..bandages. Did someone patch her up?

"A....lyn!"

Ah. There it was again. If she focused, Ashlyn could make out the tiniest of voices. It pounded in her head.

She sat up, groaning. "Ugh..."

"Ashlyn!"

Before she even knew what was happening, Logan had tackled her in a hug. Ashlyn grunted. What the hell was going on? Wrapping her arm around the boy she struggled to stand up.

"Try not to move so much," Alex said. He gently helped her sit up fully. From there, Ashlyn could see where they were.

An old cave from the looks of it, but she recognized it. She came here a lot when she was younger, her little hiding space when things became too much. Torches lined the walls, and people of all kinds say about. She saw Tyler getting treated for his pain in his stomach, turns out he had been stabbed. Adrenaline does wonders doesnt it?

Taylor was entertaining a group of injured kids, trying to distract them from the pain as Ben patched them up, wincing as he did so and looking on the verge of a breakdown. They were all so small. They reminded him so much of his sister at home.

God he would kill to be home right now.

Aiden had been knocked out, having hit head when the chandelier fell. He had nasty gashes on the side of his face. Ashlyn frowned.
"Is he ok?"

"He'll be fine, for the most part it's just a minor concussion." Alex explained. "Do you remember what happened?"

Ashlyn nodded. She could remover bits and pieces. "We're in a cave..?"

"It's outside the kingdom lines. For some reason, those creatures aren't stepping outside it." Logan explained.

Ashlyn relaxed. Then she tensed again. "Wait, what happened to the—"

"Captured, all of them." Alex said grimly.

Ashlyn frowned. She squeezed Logan a bit. "...so what? What do we do now?"

Alex sighed, exhausted. "....i don't know."

Ashlyn's grip on Logan tightened. Crap.

They were all so fucked
