I loosened my neck tie as I knocked Clayton's apartment door. Hindi ko na tinapos ang party upang makita at makausap siya. I knew Mom would pull off something like that, but I didn't expect she would do it on my birthday.

He seemed unsure about letting me inside his apartment. However, after a moment of hesitation, he finally gave me permission to enter. I could tell he was a bit cautious, but he eventually opened the door and welcomed me in.
When we reached inside, I quickly pulled him and gave him a warm embrace. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you. I'm trying to figure out a way to escape from my Mom's plan, but I didn't expect she would announce it tonight."
Slowly, he distanced his body from me and faced his veranda. "Did Alex know about this?"
I felt a bit nervous for speaking up, but I pushed through and started talking anyway. "Yes, but just like me, she didn't want to push through with the wedding."
"Alam rin ba ng iba ang tungkol dito?" tanong niyang muli habang nakatalikod pa rin sa akin.
"Hindi," sagot ko. "Only Alex and our parents knew about this unless she told about it to anyone. Pero sa pagkakaalam ko ay kaming dalawa lang sa grupo natin ang nakakaalam."
He gradually moved his head and turned to me. "I knew about your engagement, but why didn't you inform me that it's Alexandria?"
"Because I don't want to destroy your relationship with her," I responded. "Alam kong bukod sa akin ay nagiging malapit ka na rin sa iba kong kaibigan, at ayaw kong maging masama ang tingin mo kay Alex ng dahil sa akin."
"You think I'm that judgmental?" he uttered.
"No!" I blurted. "But I knew how emotional you are. Lagi mong sinasabi sa lahat na ayos ka lang, pero ang totoo ang mabilis ka ring magdamdam."
