JJ - 18

The ball bounced against the pavement as I played basketball with my friends in the driveway. Sweat dripped down my face, but I barely noticed. It was a hot afternoon, and the competition was running smoothly until Jieun came home with Mom after a day at the mall.

Just as I went for a layup, I saw her walking toward the house, and her presence immediately drew attention. One of my friends, Seojun, nudged me with a smirk. "Your sister's really grown up, huh?"

I shot him a warning look but didn't say anything. We continued our game, but I caught Seojun glancing at Jieun more than once.

His eyes followed her every move, staying on her longer than I liked. It made my skin crawl to see him checking her out, the way his gaze lingered on her legs, the curve of her hips. There was an obvious interest, and it set off a blazing jealousy in me.

After the game, as we were cooling down with some water, Seojun approached me carefully. "Hey, Jungkook," he started, clearing his throat., "Is Jieun seeing anyone?"

"Why do you ask?"

He shrugged, scratching the back of his head. "I was thinking maybe I could ask her out... You know, if that's... cool with you."

My grip on the water bottle tightened. The idea of Jieun going out with one of my friends made my stomach churn. "I don't know, man... Jieun is kinda reclusive about these things."

"I see."

"I mean, you could try. I just don't want to get your hopes high. She was dating someone last month—they kinda broke things off."

Seojun grinned, looking relieved. "Thanks, pal."

The jealousy sseethed beneath, about to burst out. It wasn't just that Seojun was interested in Jieun. It was the way he stared at her, like she was a prize to be won. I knew my friend well enough to recognize that look.

Later, I found Jieun in her room, sitting cross-legged on her bed with her sketchbook in her lap. She looked up when I knocked on the door frame. "Hey," I started awkwardly. "You know my friend, Seojun?"

"Yeah?"

"He, um... asked me if he could take you out."

She blushed slightly, looking down at her sketchbook. "Oh, yeah, I know... He did ask me. We're going on a date this weekend."

I nodded, my heart sinking. "Cool... Cool... be careful, okay?"

She gave me a puzzled look but nodded. "Sure."

We didn't talk much after that. By the weekend, I needed an escape because I couldn't stand the idea of Jieun getting ready to meet one of my friends. I was stupid enough to allow it to happen, but I also knew if I didn't, I would be hypocritical and she'd probably hate me more.
