Jungkook stepped out of his room later that evening and could hear the TV blaring from the living room. He rounded the corner to find his parents and Jieun lounging on the couch, caught up in some reality show. His mom looked up and smiled.
"Hey, where have you been the whole afternoon?"
"Just helping Hoseok with something," Jungkook replied, keeping it nonchalant. "But I'm heading out to the movies now... Sis, you wanna come?"
Jieun stared at him, surprise written all over her face. The way he smiled back at her told everything she needed to know. "Uh, yeah! Let me just grab my jacket," she stammered, her cheeks flushing a bit before she rushed off.
They were already out the door by the time their father called out, "Don't come home too late, you two!"
Once they were outside, Jieun and Jungkook exchanged quick, playful glances as they got into the car. It was hard to contain the smiles that threatened to break through.
"So, where are we really going?" Jieun asked, leaning back in her seat.
"To the movies, where else?"
She moistened her lips to prevent herself from smiling. "Right."
As they navigated through the city, the anxiety seemed to thicken with each passing block. The familiar sights and sounds outside the car window blended into a hazy backdrop while they drove on. Jungkook could sense her subtle glances in his direction, her eyes darting over to him, and it only fueled the mischievous grin that curled on his lips.
After a few minutes of driving, he pulled into a deserted area close to their high school campus. The car came to a stop, and he glanced at her, who was already smirking at him.
"I knew you were lying..." she breathed out, her chest already heaving.
"Is that a bad thing?" he muttered.
Jieun shook her head, taking off her seatbelt in a hurry. "Shut up and kiss me."
In an instant, Jungkook leaned in and fervently kissed her. Time lost its significance; they became immersed in each other, savoring each passing minute as if it were an endless, blissful eternity.
Upon disengaging from each other, she adjusted her position in the seat and directed her gaze towards him. "Did you think it would be easy when they came back?" she asked, her voice low.
"No... But not like this," he sighed. "Like we're just pretending again."
She turned her head to look out the window, lost in thought. "It's weird, isn't it? We've always shared the same space, but now it feels like we're always meters away... Sometimes, I wonder if it's worth it."
