I had been seeing Seojun for a few weeks now. We'd gone on a handful of dates, and he was sweet, but things always seemed to be out of place when we were together. Maybe it was because he was one of Jungkook's friends. It was what I chose to believe anyway.
One evening, Seojun and I met up at a quaint little café downtown. It had a cozy vibe with rustic wooden tables, and smell of coffee. He was already there when I arrived, standing up to greet me with a adorable smile that made me momentarily forget my nerves.
"Hey, Jieun," he said, pulling out a chair for me. "You look great."
"Thanks," I smiled back. "You too."
We ordered our drinks, and Seojun suggested we try their signature dessert, a decadent chocolate lava cake. While waiting for our order, I noticed that from all the guys I had dated before, Seojun was the easiest to talk to; he had a way of making me feel comfortable.
As the evening went on, I genuinely enjoyed his company. We moved on to a nearby park, where we strolled along the path lined with trees. Seojun took my hand, and I didn't pull away. It felt nice, even if it didn't make my heart race.
I really tried to like him. He was everything a girl could ask for—kind, considerate, funny, and sincerely interested in me. Each date was meticulously planned, and he always made sure I was having a good time.
But no matter how hard I tried to feel more for him, I couldn't. I wanted to feel that spark, that electric connection that made my heart beat faster, yet it never came. I'd find myself comparing every moment with him to the moments I had with Jungkook, and it was frustrating.
Seojun deserved someone who could fully appreciate him and I kept hoping that with time, things would change, that I'd eventually fall for him.
It was my last thought as I was sitting at my desk, doodling on my tablet, when my phone hummed with a new message. It was from Seojun. My heart sank as I opened it, already sensing the bad news.

Seojun:
Hey, Jieun.
I think we should stop seeing each other.
I'm sorry.
I stared at the message in disbelief. It was sudden and out of nowhere and it hit me harder than I expected. My hand trembled as I set the phone down, a bitter taste in my mouth. My immediate thought was that Jungkook had something to do with it. He'd been acting strange since I started going out with Seojun.
I gave a heavy sigh out of my nose and pursed my lips tightly. The only reason we weren't exactly talking to one another right now was because I knew he didn't like the idea of us dating.
