the morning sun gently bathed yunjin's figure in golden warmth as she laid sprawled out on the picnic blanket, trying her hardest to forget about the 'argument' she had with her mother. she could not bear another minute suffocated by the thoughts of her own parents, so the moment she woke up, she left straight to the park-with nothing but a blanket, her polaroid, and a few snacks to get her through the morning.
to which led her to where she is now, surrounded by strangers and entangled by the light buzz of chitchat that radiated from passersby's. she wasn't the type to seek out alone time, but in a way she didn't mind it at this very moment. that house always held her back, and she knew it. she was very well aware, and some may even ask why don't she just move away? it's simple, her parents pay her tuition, and god knows she can't afford that.
she reclined back onto the blanket, her eyes closing as her body came in contact with the ground. it wasn't always supposed to be like this, she thinks. it was never supposed to be like this, and she often wonders if it'll ever get better. yunjin likes to believe it will, but she feels it inside the deepest parts of her stomach; it'll never get better.
"yunjin?" a familiar voice pierced through her silence, causing her to blink her eyes open to see sakura standing over her, a mixture of confusion and worry etched across her face. yunjin felt the heat rise in her body, fear embodying her as she sat up.
"hey, calm down," sakura began gently, her words hanging loosely over yunjin's head, "i saw you over here by yourself, and i wanted to come and apologize for how i acted at church. it was wrong of me, and truly i'm so sorry."
yunjin felt her mouth go dry at the unexpected apology, her fingers nervously toying with the hem of her sweater. "you don't need to apologize," she finally managed to get out, a sheepish smile tugging on the corners of her lips, "if anything, i should be the one apologizing."
the silence between them lingered on for a couple seconds, before taken over by a soft gentle calmness. yunjin couldn't help but see how beautiful sakura is, radiating a happiness that she used to be apart of, before ruined it.
"i'm so sorry, sakura," yunjins voice broke the silence, her words cutting through the cracks of tension between them. "i miss my best friend, and i'm so sorry for how i treated you. i was young, and stupid-"
"yunjin, stop." sakura interrupted softly, a gentle smile gracing her lips. "can i sit?" she asked, earning a desperate eager nod from yunjin, she shifted on the blanket to make room for her.
"do you want to talk about it?" sakura asked gently, her doe like eyes filled with understanding and compassion. that's always been one of yunjin's favorite things about sakura, her ability to calm one down without even knowing it.
