chapter eighteen ʚ ✮ ɞ
yunjin sank into the small, secluded booth nestled in the dimmest corner of the diner, her breath escaping slowly as the leather seats clung to her exposed skin. the atmosphere had been thick with silence and tension since the two of them left the planetarium-not necessarily bad thing but a mere comfort.
yunjin let her mind dwell back to the planetarium, the thoughts lingering like the faint glow of hope she had as she looked up at the constellations and planets-the way she genuinely felt so much joy that she hadn't felt in such a very long time. she loved that chaewon listened to her ramble about her love for the stars-letting her ramble and take the time to explain each one to her, while also giving random small facts that she had accumulated throughout the years.
while her friends knew about her love for outer space, none of them really took the time to fully understand it. it wasn't their thing, and she understood that, but that didn't change the fact that she wanted them to listen. most conversations with that topic felt like speaking to a wall-however she thinks she would have more conversation with a wall instead.
her thoughts drifted to yeonjun, a slight frown curling upon her lips as she thought about the male. she hadn't really seen him in a while, after the situation with her father she stopped talking to many people-however he was the main one. that didn't stop him from sending numerous text messages, he could not catch the hint. and it drove yunjin insane. she was not interested, nor would she ever be. and she had told him numerous of times, but he quite literally could not take no for an answer.
but he was her best friend and that was really all she wanted from him-she could not lose him. and as much as she tried to like him, she could not get her feelings to work in the way she wanted them to. if she could, do you think she'd choose to be a lesbian in a house with a father who beats her because of it?
chaewon's light giggle pulled yunjin back into the present, her gaze was warm and curious as she stared at the red haired girl in front of her. "you look so content over there," chaewon teased, her voice sending tingles down yunjins spine.
"are you okay?"
she doesn't think shell ever get over the way her body melts when chaewon talks to her-her favorite sound.
yunjin slowly lifted her gaze to meet chaewons, her lips curling into a smile that felt strained. "yeah, im fine," she said, her tone betraying the lie despite her best efforts. her smile widened in hopes that chaewon wouldn't push further, but she knew better-after recent events with her father, chaewon had gotten...what's the word. protective?
chaewon's brows furrowed in a gentle concern, "are you sure?" her voice was soft, and yunjin liked that. no one had really ever treated her with the same amount of kindness that chaewon does, or softness.
yunjin nodded and took a long sip from her cherry slush-a mere tradition she had picked up each time she would come here. the sweet, icy liquid was enough to make her focus on it instead of her distracting thoughts.
