Charli's POV:
The shadowy dinosaur went down with a thud and out with a series of flashing lights.
"Good Riddance...." I mumbled once the las t of it shadowy essence brunt away.
Alexandra was standing next to someone none of us had seen, until they scared the shit out of us earlier, neither of us knew who this new superhero was. And it was bugging me the way their grey eyes honed in on me. Elijah and Jaimie were scrutinizing them from top to bottom while Ember and Kyia peppered them with series of questions.
All the while, I stayed stuck in their stormy peripheral.
"Is this a one off or are you going to help us from now on?" Alex questioned them.
"I'll take my chances." They stated, eyes barely wavering off me.
"That's not an answer!" I shouted.
Everyone jolted in shock expect for the new Superhero. They were....Laughing?
"Oh, nice to know your temper is as hot as your fire." Their voice chuckled.
My muscles tensed, I- I knew that voice. But from where? I could not place it.
A light breeze of wind blew from behind them and ruffled our clothes and hair, poking at my eyes. Once I could see again they were gone, gone on the wind.
Alex chuckled. "Come on, we've got assessments to get back to."
I grumbled as my disuse disappeared, "Don't remind me. Howards has to come watch us trial for a spot on the team going to districts."
Alex paled and Jaimie chocked on a breath. "What! You never told me that the Principal was going to watch us during selection!"
I laughed at Jaimie's outburst, she hated being watched when it came to being selected for something. I learnt that out the first day she arrived; we had visited the ice rink and Than was mucking around on the ice when he suggested that Jaimie have a go at ice hockey. She kept complaining and or looking over at me or him whenever Coach wanted her to do a drill. I still remember the first time she messed up and slipped- but nonetheless she was a good player.
I and Alex were walking inside the entrance of the rink when she spotted Howie in the stands.
"Scared of my aunt are you?" I whispered in her ear.
Some students who had a free period loved to come and hang out at the café the catering students run while people trained or a game was on.
"No, I'm more scared of you." Alex whispered back but I couldn't help notice her voice quivered as she spoke.
Must be the chill air of the rink, our breaths were appearing like steam from a train it was that cold and the woman had not brought a jumper. although, we were supposed to be in our gear by now.
"Charli, Alexandra! Out of all I thought you two would never be the late one's- even Howards showed up late. Come on, hurry up and get your gear on." Coach yelled at us from the ice.
"Fashionably late, I was. Moon, You do know I am the principal." Howie snarked but her voice held no malice in it- leaving Coach clueless to if it was a dig.
Alexandra snorted and quickly headed for the locker room. I on the other hand stayed back to explain why we were late to my Aunt.
"We were running late in our other exam, they started the perusal time too late." I half lied.
They had indeed started late but all of us had finished early, however, my Aunt had no reason to know that we finished early.
"I know, Mrs Walters assured me some might be late to try outs. Now go before you shiver so much you start turning to ice because you can't move." She joked.
That was weird, I was shivering but not because of the cold air. It had gotten colder, incredibly colder as I had talked with my Aunt, goosebumps had started to form on my skin and my lips felt as though the were numb. But as soon as I walked away the air in the rink began to warm up. After that, the only cold air in this place was around my Aunt- who seemed to be not even bothered by it.
Moonfire got us to quickly warm up and put us straight to work. Making us do drills. Testing our speed, endurance, skills, skating abilities' and more. He pushed me the hardest out of everyone because he knew my Aunt was watching. Alex had a hard time to, halfway she had to switch into her goalkeeper gear and block shots after shots, do more drills and even one on one penalty shootouts. By the time we had finished the rest of our friends had come to watch, released from their exams and both of us were severely out of breath.
Half the team clasped their sticks to stop them from clasping on the ice but a few others gave way to the exhaustion, including me. Once a few saw me go down others went down as well.
"Alright," coach Moonfire said. "Those names I call out will be in the team with potential, the others will still have a chance to make it. The teams are not decided fully yet, their is still room for changes."
Once the teams were announced the people who had made it onto the potential side were told to turn their jerseys inside out. After I had turned mine inside out Coach skated over to Alex and I and handed the latter a different Goalie jersey to use. We locked eyes and grinned. Alex had also made it to the potentials as a Goalkeeper.
"Okay before I start this game: You each will have the same amount of time on the ice and rests on the bench, goalkeepers we will switch at half time. Remember the list still can change so now is not a time to slack off." Over on the other ice rink a bang sounded, interrupting Coach and Jack peeled himself off the glass before giving us and everyone a thumbs up.
Marcus had pummeled him into the boards rather harshly and quite illegally. "Marcus! Get off the ice; penalty box now!" Thalindors' voice echoed throughout the building.
Marcus and Jack had a falling out ever since I had been targeted by Mr. Bitchy- boy. He'd even personally came up to me at dinner to apologise. I didn't trust him at first but after seeing him mouth off at Marcus the night after at training on the hockey turf I started to trust him more.
Coach's voice interrupted us from watching Marcus skate of shame. He was lucky he had escaped my aunts Wrath with a Risk of cancelation. I turned around on my skates to see my Aunt talking to Alex. When she noticed that everyone was about to begin the game she shooed her away.
"I know you all would love to have a spot on the team but we can only take a few of you talented players. Those who do not make it will be allowed to trial next year and will be able to subsitute for players away when we have games against other schools while our team is away. If I call out your name you re on the team: Jasmine Morre, Jenifier Morre, Skye Burke, Bridie Miller, Kate Garcia, Elise Jones, Jaime Durant, Alexandra Williams and Charli Steele. Shadows are: Alexandra Williams as goalkeeper, Rebecca Powers, Kendra Lowery, Sara Rogers, Tyler Quinn and Kaden and Max McCormack."
