FIVE DAYS LATER
Her wound heals, she is discharged. She goes to Jed's room where he is still sedated but most of his wounds are healed and his body is healthier.
Jane looks at him and smile
he is one lucky dude.
Derek, you scared me.
sorry I didn't meant too. How are you?
I am fine.
you gave the dude your kidney without having second thoughts.
he has done things for me too.
is he just a friend? Or did you guys ever..?
Shut up ...just keep an eye on him.
sure will, where are you going?
I got vacation days; you got work. Bye Derek.
see you later.
Jane goes home; her apartment. She lifts her shirt in front of the mirror, her right side is covered in bandages, slightly paining but bearable due to morphine still in her system.
The day goes by, she gets a call from Derek way past midnight who tells her that Jed has woken up.
She is relieved.
Meanwhile in the hospital Jed wakes up, he is visited by his doctors.
welcome back Mr. Eckert.
....
you were in pretty bad shape.
are others from the army fine?
we were able to save them all, fortunately no one died.
okay. How long have I been out?
you crashed your both kidneys, you underwent a transplant. You were unconscious for 6 days.
who gave me one?
...someone on the transplant list.
I want to meet them,
I can't do that that would compromise the patient's confidentiality, be thankful you are alive.
Did you call someone?
Yes your father, his flight was postponed due to some technical difficulties.
thank you doctor.
And Jane foster said that she'd visit you in the morning.
Jane, she was here.
Dr Foster is a doctor here
The doctor leaves and the nurse enters,
you are one lucky man,
I guess I am.
your friend the doctor was pretty concerned.
She is like that
she gave you her kidney I mean who does that
What??
The nurse is interrupted by the doctor who totally forgets to tell the nurse not to tell Jed that Jane gave him the kidney.
god damn it Jane.
In the morning he gets up, discharges himself out against medical advice. He goes to the house where they live,
Stephen where is Jane?
she moved out,
where did she move?
is everything okay? And you can't be just walking around Jane told me you were in a pretty bad shape.
Yeah yeah I am fine, give me her address.
Jed goes to her apartment. He knocks on her door and pushes his way in as soon as she opens the door.
Jed? I was on my way to...
Jed pushes her back and closes the door; he pushes her against the wall
Jed what are you do ...?
Jed puts his hand on her mouth and
ssshhh
He looks at her and slowly lifts her shirt up; he sees bandages on her right waist.
why did you do it? (Slowly, so close to her lips)
Jed ....
no! Jane, answer me why!?
Because you were dying, you lost both your kidneys and there was no one on the transplant list to match you!!
no tell me why?
I told you why
damn it Jane!
Jed punches the wall beside her from his both hands
You were shot at the heart! I saw you die in my arms, you bled on me. Do you even know how that felt?
but look at me now! I am standing right in front of you kicking
why do you keep risking your life to save me Jane? Why?
Tears drop from his eyes
Because you'd do the same. Why do you risk your life to save mine?
you know damn well why, you know why!
....
I don't want you to risk your life to save me. Do you get it?! I can survive on my own.
it's my life mine, and I can do whatever I want with it. (As she wipes her tears)
well I guess there is nothing I can say, is there? Okay yeah it's your life, you can throw it away if you want but I am not gonna stick around and see you do so. I am done Jane, this is over.
get out, Jed.
Jed wipes his tears from his arms and leaves.
Jane throws the stuff from her table and cries. Jed stands outside her door listening to her cries, he sobs too. He whispers to himself,
because I love you
