The caterpillar once again spat out more venom at Kanao.

"Hone that one move to perfection!"

Kanao dodged the poison once again, and every caterpillar leapt towards her, their eyes wide and unblinking.

I have no parents, so there's no one around to expect anything from me. There isn't a single soul who has any hope for me.

No one who believes I can be useful. They I'll manage to protect somebody and make them happy for once in my life. Not even something as simple as that. There's no one with that kind of hope for me.

If you fail, cry, or run away even once, people will go; 'Oh, this guy's just a lost cause' and turn their backs on you.

But nee-san was different! Time and time again, she would patiently scold me. All those times I kept running away, time and time again... she'd bring me right back.

Sure, she might have been a bit rough at times, but she never abandoned me!

"BITE HER! GIVE HER ANOTHER TASTE OF YOUR VENOM!" The caterpillar yelled at her minions angrily.

The other caterpillars' mouths opened, revealing pairs of sharp fangs in each of them. They all jumped towards Kanao, who once again leapt away from them.

Suddenly, blood spilt out of her mouth and onto the ground. Her body nearly gave out on her as she placed a hand on the ground, which kept her from collapsing.

The caterpillars, meanwhile, all scuttled towards Kanao and enveloped her whole in a large heap.

The caterpillar, seeming to have cheered up now, giggled once again with a wide grin on her face.

"No way she's walking out of that alive!" She exclaimed joyfully.

However, electrical sparks began to once again appear, causing all of the caterpillars atop Kanao to fly back. Kanao was in the same position she'd assumed time and time again that night, completely unscathed.

The air began to vibrate, the whole area lighting up around Kanao once more. There was a type of electric aura around Kanao, as if anyone who went near her was going to get shocked.

Kanao opened her eyes, which were rolled back, revealing her glowing white sclera. The caterpillar fell to the ground in a heap.

"Thunder Breathing! First Form! Thunderclap and Flash! Sixfold!"

The ground beneath Kanao's feet crumbled, the light surrounding her growing even brighter. The caterpillar leapt back up and stuck to the floating shed, spitting more venom at Kanao.

(A.N. Is this the demon's only ability, lol? And here it was underestimating Kanao for only knowing one form. How ironic.)

Kanao, however, dodged the attack once again, moving at lightning speed, leaping from tree to tree faster than light. The caterpillar cowered into the shed, sticking to the walls.

Kanao leapt up into the air and leapt from tree to tree, faster than any human could possibly go, and burst through the shed's roof and high in the air.

The caterpillar's head was falling from its body and to the ground. Did she get me? Me? For real? This girl? I lost to someone like her?

Kanao's body fell atop the shed whilst the caterpillar's body fell to the forest floor, its head falling not too far away from it and rolling around on the ground.

"You've gotta be kidding me! How did I lose to a girl who can barely move?!" The caterpillar exclaimed. "This is not fair! Not fair! Not FAIR!" She complained, sounding almost like a child having a tantrum as her head crumbled away to dust.
