"What are you doing?" Nezuko demanded, her eyebrows furrowed. "Aren't you two allies?"
"Allies?" The demon repeated, stretching the silk threads between her fingers. "Don't lump us in with such shallow trifle. We're family. We're joined by a much more powerful bond. And besides, this is a matter between me and my daughter. Mind your own business." The demon's tone was cold and impassive, revealing not even a hint of underlying emotion as she spoke. "Or I'll carve you up."
Nezuko let out a soft gasp. "You're wrong. If the bond between you is strong enough, it doesn't matter whether you're family or allies," she said, looking down at the ground. "They're equally precious! Calling it shallow simply because there's no blood relation..." She looked the demon in the eyes. "That's simply not true! Not only that, but those who share a strong bond give off the scent of trust!"
"But all I'm picking up from you two is the scent of terror, hatred and repulsion!" She continued, raising up to her feet. Her tone matched her expression; determined. "You can't even call that a bond! It's a sham! Your bond is fake!"
As Nezuko spoke, the demon girl let out a quiet gasp, tears still rolling down her face as she stared at the forest floor. The other demon, meanwhile, took a more emotional approach, her eyes widening in anger as she clenched her teeth. Despite the demon's anger, Nezuko didn't back down.
"You..." The demon began with pure fury. Her eyes twitched and her teeth chattered, barely able to keep in her anger.
"Wow, would you look at that! A demon that's just the right size!" Another Slayer stated smugly as he approached. "Even I can take down a woman like her." The Slayer rose his katana with a confident smirk.
"Please hold on-" Nezuko began, but the Slayer cut her off.
"Would you mind backing off?" He asked, the smirk not leaving his face. "I'd much prefer to take the safe route up the ladder. The higher your rank, the bigger the paycheque and all that. My unit may have been wiped out, but at least I get to slay a proper demon and head down the mountain in one piece."
He then charged towards the demon. "Take this!"
"NO, STOP! DON'T DO IT!" Nezuko screamed, but it was too late. The demon waved her hand and silk threads sliced through the Slayer's body and cut him into pieces.
He was cut into pieces in an instant! Nezuko thought to herself, horrified at the sight. But how did she...
"Hey, what did you just say?" The demon asked, her expression darkening. Nezuko looked away from the Slayer's remains and at the demon
"Hey," the former repeated. "Care to repeat what you just said?" Her expression was beyond terrifying, her face darker than the night sky itself and her only visible eye wide with pure fury.
She's so intimidating! Nezuko thought, feeling as if she were shrinking under the demon's horrifying glare. She's so overbearing, I can hardly breathe!
I'm sorry, Aoi! Hang in there a bit longer, okay? I'll come running over as soon as I defeat this demon! I'll come save you, no matter what!
"What are you waiting for?" The demon asked, her stare unwavering. "Well? Out with it."
"Sure! I'll say it as many times as you want!" Nezuko replied, gripping her sword tightly. "The bond between you is fake!"
With Aoi..
Aoi's breathing was unsteady, her chest rising and falling as she hid behind a tree away from the monstrous creature, which was scanning the area for her. It didn't take long for the father to notice a trail of blood leading to where Aoi was hiding.
