25. Leavers
It's Friday again; and it's also the day us Year Elevens leave high school forever.
I wake up in the morning not really knowing how to feel; happy, excited, and nervous, scared. In the afternoon it would be our leavers' assembly where I was supposed to say a speech considering I was on the School Council.
I put on my school uniform for the last day ever. I wear my hair down, putting on minimal make up; before slipping on my black converse and making my way downstairs.
Connor was meeting me today; so we could walk to school together; something we had been doing quite recently.
After I'd come out of hospital Connor came round and we spoke about what had happened and how we acted the way we did; but we talked it through and decided to forget it. Strangely he didn't bring up the fact he had feelings for me again; so neither did I. I'm hoping it will come up in conversation as I do want to tell him how I feel, but I'm slightly scared. What if he doesn't like me anymore? What if he just wants to be friends after everything that's happened?
As I grab a handful of grapes for my breakfast, I decide I'll tell him when he comes round later. We decided Connor would come round mine after the assembly.
Just as I'm in the process of eating my grapes; the doorbell rings. I go and open the door, letting Connor in.
He hugs me hello, and comes inside.
"Morning love, you alright," he says letting go of me.
"Yeah I'm good. Want some grapes?"
He takes a few from my hand, popping them in his mouth.
"Ready for your speech?" he asks me.
"Not really, ready for yours?" I retort.
Connor had decided to join School Council with me for the last few weeks of term; so he too had to write a speech.
Speaking of speeches; I remember I don't have mine.
I race up the stairs; just as Harry is coming down. He looks at me confused before continuing to walk down the stairs. I retrieve my speech from my computer desk, which I re wrote about twenty times last night, until I was happy with it.
"Right, shall we go?" I ask Connor waving the piece of paper with my speech written on.
"Bye Haz, see you later," I wave from the doorway.
"I'll see you in your leavers' assembly. Good luck both of you," he shouts from the kitchen.
"Ta," I shout back, knowing how much he hates it.
"Thanks H, see ya later."
And with that we leave the house; and make our regular journey to school.
The day flew by. Obviously we didn't have any normal lessons; especially since we'd finished our exams. So they let us do what we wanted pretty much the whole day. We had to register in the morning but were then free to do what we wanted. Most people went round with their yearbooks getting people to write messages and sign them.
It was a mixture of emotions throughout the day; the nearer the leavers assembly, the sadder it was really. It was finally sinking in that I was leaving high school; the school I had spent most of my teenage years. And although I hated the last few years, I was still sad to leave.
And in a blink of an eye it was assembly time.
Our year group and teachers filed into the hall, sitting on benches on the first and second tiers of the hall space, and parents sat on the third tiers.
