After Danielle and I had finished our food we both decided to go back to our parents houses to pack the last of our things.
I was in my bedroom, pacing back and forth. I kept glancing at myself in my mirror, unsatisfied with how I looked. I thought of things I could change with the little time I had. My hair? My clothes? Maybe I could wear some makeup...
My heart began racing and I could feel the nerves pulsating in my stomach. I peered out of my window and across the street to Mr Styles' house. One of his fancy black cars lay parked in the driveway. I knew he was expecting me.
"Fuck it." I whispered to myself as I allowed my eyes to leave his house.
I quickly walked down the stairs, brushing my hand along the banister. I grabbed my keys on the hall table and unlocked the door.
"And where are you going?" My Mother asked.
I turned around to see her with a glass of scotch in one hand and a cigarette in the other.
"Out." I simply answered.
"Out where?"
"To visit the new neighbour.."
"Listen here," My Mother pointed her cigarette at me with a threatening tone. "I won't have my only daughter disgrace this family, you can't barge into people's homes in the evening and -"
"I was invited." I interrupted.
"Oh. You were invited." She sarcastically smiled. She inched closer to me until I could smell the alcohol from her breathe. "Are you stupid? Do you know that man?" She interrogated me.
"I'm a big girl now mother, I make my own decisions." I whispered into her face before I finally left the house, slamming the door on my way out. It irritated me when she was drunk.
It felt good. My mother had controlled me my whole life, now finally I could do what I wanted. But I couldn't stop myself from hearing her last questions linger in my head. Am I stupid? Do I know Harry?
I shook it off as I crossed the street and neared his front door. I knocked three times.
"Jamie." Harry smiled as he opened the front door, a glass of wine in his hand. His shirt was loose, the first few buttons undone. For a moment I thought I seen a bird tattoo but I stopped myself from staring.
"Mr Styles." I smiled, stepping inside.
I looked around me. His hall was fully furnished. No boxes, nothing.
"I thought I was here to help you unpack?"
"You are." He smiled, walking into a different room.
I followed behind him into a beautifully decorated living area. Harry walked over to a large piece of furniture with one shelf empty.
"We're unpacking my books." He grinned.
I walked over to the box by his feet, I knelt down and opened it.
"There's only like twenty books in here, this won't take long." I told him.
"There's twenty seven actually, but good guess." He smirked. He knelt down too and together we took the books out of the box and placed them on the shelf.
"I feel like I'm at work." I chuckled.
"Do you like working there? In the book store?"
"Oh yes, I love it. I find comfort in books. A special kind of comfort people can't offer."
He gazed at me for a few moments, almost mesmerised by what I just said. He stood up and cleared his throat "Would you like a glass of wine?"
"Oh I'm not supposed to dri-"
"I won't tell anyone Jamie." Harry laughed. He walked over to a cabinet and poured me a glass of wine.
I slid the last book onto the shelf. I stood up and thanked Mr Styles for my glass of wine. I took a small sip.
"Well?" He questioned.
"It's tasty, really rich." I smiled, licking my lips. Our eyes kept contact, the atmosphere shifted and I felt aroused by his strong presence.
"I've something to show you, come on." He smiled, revealing his flawless teeth. He took my glass from me and set both of the glasses on the table.
He led me to his garage.
"Wait, wait, wait." He stopped me before he opened the door. He reached into his pocket and took out a tie.
"It's a surprise." He smiled, I was hesitant but I turned around, allowing him to wrap the tie over my eyes.
My other senses heightened, now that I was temporarily blind. I started to slightly panic because I couldn't see, and now I could no longer hear Harry.
"Shhh." He soothed me, placing his hands on my shoulders. "Trust me Jamie, you'll like this." My body responded and my mind began to wonder. Like what?
I heard the opening of a door and Harry led me down a step or two. Then the back of my 'blindfold' was pulled and Harry's tie fell to the floor.
"It's a convertible." He said, almost cockily, placing his hands in his pockets.
Before me lay a gorgeous silver car, it was a BMW but that's all I knew. It was stunning and on the bonnet was a big red bow.
I turned to Harry and furrowed my eyebrows in confusion, I shook my head. "Harry I can't take this."
He closed his eyes and tensed his jaw, but quickly relaxed. I then realised I had called him by his first name - why does he hate that so much?
"You're taking it Jamie. That's final."
I was left speechless, at a loss for words.
"I can't..accept it, it's too much."
"Jamie. I'm a man with not many friends, a lot of money and I know this is something you need. Please, just take the car." He smiled, walking closer and handing me a key.
"I..." My eyes began to water, I was so shocked. "Thank you." I managed to choke out.
"Well don't cry." He chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. My tears obviously made him uncomfortable.
Mr Styles looked at his watch. "You should probably go home and go to bed, get an early nights sleep." He suggested. I wiped my tears and nodded my head. Harry placed his hand on the small of my back and led me out of the garage. Leaving his soft grey tie on the floor.
We arrived at Harry's hall table, near the front door. He picked up a large brown envelop and handed it to me.
"Jamie. I think I've made it quite clear already that I'm.....interested in you. I want you to go home, go into your room and close and lock your door. Then, read what's in that envelop. You won't understand this yet because you haven't read it, but I'll be outside your parents' house at seven o'clock tomorrow evening, I'm going to take you out. Then you can tell me your final decision. And don't bring your documents, I have my own copy." He told me, sounding very formal and business like.
"I'll see you tomorrow Mr Styles." I smiled before exiting the door he held open for me.
While walking across to my parents' house I came to the conclusion that what was inside the envelop must be a job offer in his company. After all, he did ask me if I liked my work earlier on. And that must be my company car if I accept the offer....
I opened the front door quietly, stepped inside and gently closed it. I walked through the hall, passing the living room to see my mother asleep and sprawled across the couch, and an empty bottle laying on the ground.
I shook my head and quietly walked upstairs.
I entered my room and locked the door.
