Kabir went silent after not getting any response from me, perhaps understanding that I do not want to answer those questions yet.
He just sat there silently, holding my hand in his, as if I would disappear if he let go even for a second. I tried to remove my hand from his hold, but he just tightened his grip, not letting go. He also peppered light pecks and kisses all over my palm and fingers, making me feel things I didn't want to acknowledge.
At this point, I just didn't know what was happening with me or in my life. First, meeting these two when I least expected it, then all those anonymous messages, the stalker, moving out, and now this. I just couldn't understand 'why everything now?'
Sometimes I doubt that it's all connected, but what's the reason? Why is this happening when we are all together? Could it be—
knock
A knock on the door broke me out of my reverie, making me look towards the door. There stood Ish bhai holding the door handle, looking at Kabir. He raised his eyebrows, silently asking for an update on my condition.
"There is someone who wants to see you, Karthi," Ish bhai spoke, making me confused about who would want to meet me. No one knows I'm in the hospital, of course, except my colleagues.
The door opened wide, and my eyes flew open as I saw the person standing with Ish bhai.
"Akshali?" I whispered, my voice filled with surprise and confusion.
There stood my sister with concern, worry, anger, and whatnot emotions.
'What is she doing here? How did she kno— Shit,' I thought to myself.
"Which hospital is this?" I asked in a low voice to Kabir, but it looked like she heard it as her eyes hardened.
Before Kabir could utter a word, she spoke, "Wahi hospital jaha me kaam karti hu." Her voice was strict, sending shivers down my spine.
(The same hospital where I work.)
I felt Kabir's hold loosening from my hand as she took slow steps toward me, and I closed my eyes, ready to take whatever was coming my way.
"Akshali, I..." I began, but she cut me off.
"What triggered it this time?" she asked in a strict voice.
"Blame game," I replied, my gaze and voice both low.
"This time? What do you mean? Does this happen often?" Ishaan bhai asked, confused.
Akshu snapped her head towards Ishaan, and the way she turned her neck, it might have hurt her. Feeling her heated gaze, Ish bhai shut his mouth, knowing that if he didn't, she might force him to.
Kabir was about to open his mouth, but Akshu again beat him to it. She’s been shutting people up quite too much nowadays.
"Ye sab na tum logo ke vajah se hi ho raha hai. Ye iska trauma hai. Kuch chize iske dil aur dimag mai iss tarah beth gai hai ke ye chahkar bhi use mita nahi sakti."
