THIS WEEK ON UNSOLVED MYSTERIES:

A mother of two wakes up to find her beloved husband in the arms of their eldest daughter, claiming to have no memory of what happened.

"I didn't do it!"

"A gunshot wound to the chest."

"There's no signs of foul play or a break-in."

"There's no DNA."

Mackenzie Patterson's childhood ended when she was 10. She found her father died in her arms and had no idea of how or who killed her. Despite the evidence, many, including the police and the press, didn't see Kenzie as a victim.

With the murder of her father being unsolved, she was inspired to become a detective. She wanted to give others the closure she never got. The inspiration to become a detective didn't stop her from mistrusting and hating the police. The police wronged her and her family by not seeing a black child as a child. Others chose to ignore this, including her best friend, Teresa Lisbon. The duo was inseparable.

With her sympathy, Kenzie saw potential in the ex-psychic Patrick Jane. Kenzie saw promise in him. He was planning on doing the one thing she couldn't do:

Kill the person who took their family away.
