Kenzie stared blankly at the floor under her. She thought this would be an easy case. All they had to do was figure out who would be evil enough to have a person die slowly with a deadly virus. But, whoever did it decided to punish everyone with their guilt and release it.

She turned her attention to Teresa, who lightly tapped her leg. She gave her phone to Kenzie.

"Cho? Hey, yeah, um... I actually want Van Pelt to tell my family, especially my mom. There's a black safe in the last drawer of my desk. The key's taped next to it. There's a box in there. I need you to give to Lilly." Kenzie sighed. "I'm gonna miss you guys."

Teresa quietly took the phone from her hands and hung up. Patrick made a disappointed grunt.

"Oh, sorry," apologized Teresa.

Patrick brushed it off as the girls sat down on the bench next to him. Kenzie turned to him.

"You're not going to call anyone?" asked Kenzie.

"Not really."

"Come on, there has to be at least one person."

"That person would be you."

Kenzie pointed at herself. "Me?"

"Yeah."

Kenzie tilted her head in curiosity. "What would you say?"

Kenzie saw a slight look of hesitation in Patrick's eyes. He took a quick glance at Teresa, who was texting Nicole. Kenzie gestured for Patrick to follow her to a section of the hallway.

"Okay. She won't hear us." Kenzie looked up at him eagerly. "What would you say?"

"I would say..." Patrick took a quick glance at her lips. "I would say that I, uh, I loved spending time with you and that you have been a really good partner."

Kenzie smiled. "Really?"

"Yeah."

Kenzie looked down at her phone, seeing her mother was calling her. "Oh, Lilly's probably calling me. I'll be back."

Kenzie turned around, answering the phone. "Hi, baby. Did you have fun with Grandma?"

"Yeah. We made cinnamon rolls. We saved you one. You should have it when you come home."

Kenzie looked up, trying to blink the tears away. "Yeah. I bet they'll taste so good."

"Mommy, are you okay? It sounds like you're crying."

She cleared her throat. "No, baby. I'm okay. I'm okay."

She turned around at the sound of a punch. She saw Patrick gripping his nose. "Look, baby, I gotta go. I love you so much."

"Bye, Mommy."

Kenzie quickly hung up the phone and ran over to Patrick and Teresa.

"What the fuck happened?"

"No virus was released," said Teresa. "Jane, here, faked it. We're not dying. It was a trick."

Kenzie's eyes started twitching. "What?"

Patrick raised his hands in defense. "Listen, before you punch me since Welks ran away, that means that the real killer will use the backroad because he took the serum."

Kenzie glared at Patrick, who ran out of the hallway.

Kenzie tiredly rubbed her eyes after the day she had. She sighed and tilted her head as she heard a familiar giggle. She walked outside her office to see Lilly playing with Patrick.

"Oh my goodness, Kenzie!"

She turned around to see her mother, Wilma, her sister, Brianna, and her brother-in-law, Joseph. They all ran toward her and hugged.

"When did you guys get here?"

"A couple of minutes ago!"

Wilma pulled back. "We were so worried. I heard you on the phone and thought that we should visit you."

"Momma, that wasn't necessary. Everything is okay, now?"

"Agent Cho said there was something about a virus."

"Oh, well–"

"Mommy."

Kenzie smiled as Lilly ran up to her. Lilly jumped into Kenzie's arms and hugged her tightly. "Hey there, princess."

"I missed you."

"I missed you too."

"I was playing with Mr. Patrick over here."

"Yeah. He showed me a card trick. You wanna see?"

"Not right now, baby. Patrick has something to tell Grandma. Doesn't he?"

Patrick smiled awkwardly before walking up to them. "Hi. Um, I may have faked a deadly outbreak in order to catch a killer and not tell Kenzie about it."

Wilma slapped Patrick across the cheek. Kenzie leaned over to him with a smirk.

"You deserved that."

"Yeah."

"That is horrible. What is wrong with you?" asked Wilma.

"A lot, but we don't talk about that. Anyway, we have learned our lesson to not do it again, right?"

"Well–"

Kenzie gave him a tight smile. "Right?"

"Yes. I won't do it again."

"Good."

Kenzie eyed Brianna. "Bri."

Brianna lunged at Patrick. Joseph caught his wife and wrapped his arms around her waist, holding her tight.

"Brianna, baby. Stop!"

Brianna stopped trashing and calmed down. Joseph hesitantly let go of her. "I'm good. I'm good."

Lilly looked at Patrick. "You know? What you did was really mean. But, I figured it was to help my mommy catch a bad guy, so I guess you did good."

Kenzie let out a chuckle. "Yeah, karma bit you in the butt."

"Yes, it did."

Kenzie looked down at Lilly. "Alright, it's past this one's bedtime. So, I'm going home."

"No. Mommy, please. Can I stay up a little longer?"

"No, love. You have school in the morning."

Lilly pouts. "Okay." Still in her mother's arms, Lilly turned to Patrick and waved. "Bye, Mr. Patrick. Thank you for teaching me that card trick."

"You're welcome."

Kenzie smiled at the interaction before lightly punching him in the arm. "Seriously, you do something like that again. I might actually kill you."

"Understood."

"I'll see you tomorrow, yeah?"

"See you tomorrow."
