Teresa, Kenzie, and Patrick arrived on a city street. Rigsby stood outside a house with many police cars surrounding the front. The girls followed him.
"We think she was killed about an hour ago," said Rigsby. "Neighbor heard screaming, called 911."
"Anybody see anything?" asked Teresa.
"We've got Sac PD canvassing, but so far nothing. Just an average night."
"Average night, average neighborhood, average murder," said Patrick. "Why are we here?"
The three of them walked into the house with police already on site.
"Because the victim is Assistant District Attorney Kelly Flower," said Kenzie.
"You worked with her."
"Yeah, we all did," said Rigsby. "Kelly was good people."
"Forensics found a casing," said Van Pelt, walking up to them. "Said it was 9-mil."
"Almost point-blank, judging from the stippling. Deputy coroner said no sexual assault. But her nightgown's ripped and tangled."
"She was crawling in it," said Teresa.
"Remodel?" asked Patrick.
"Kelly's one of us," said Kenzie. "Hightower's already approved the overtime. You know the drill."
"Why is that the drill? I mean, for everyone else, it just looks like for your own, you try harder."
"I try harder for every case I'm on."
"I mean, we do try hard for our own," said Van Pelt.
"It's a terrent. It sends out a message, nobody gets away with killing a cop, a judge, or a D.A."
"I mean, unless it's a corrupt cop." Kenzie looked up to see Teresa glaring at her. "Never mind."
"Cho can get a list of Kelly's cases, see who she put away that held a grudge," said Rigsby.
'It's not a deterrent," said Patrick. "It's revenge, really. I mean, and that's not a criticism, 'cause I'm all about revenge. I mean, revenge can be very productive."
"How?" asked Kenzie.
"Well, take Rigsby. Van Pelt breaks up with him. Now he's in the best shape of his life. I mean, he's hitting the gym, what, six times a week? Look at him. He is brimming with sexual confidence."
"Jane, cut it out," said Rigsby.
"Not on my account," said Van Pelt. "It's fine."
Kenzie looked up at Patrick slightly annoyed.
"See? Fine. My point, there is nothing wrong with revenge."
Teresa turns to Van Pelt. "Van Pelt, any damage to the windows or the back door?"
"No, nothing. No sign of forced entry, so either she let him in, or..."
"Husband's here," stated Rigsby.
"He let himself in," said Patrick.
The victim's husband, Jayden Flower, stumbled to the ground, sobbing, as two police officers supported him.
"Oh my god! No!" exclaimed Mr. Flower. "Kelly, no! No! No! God, no!"
🙂
In the bullpen, the team sat, going over the case.
"Tiffany wants you to call her back," said Cho.
"Oh, thanks," said Rigsby.
