Kenzie stretched out her muscles as she stepped on the pavement. She was a little bit late and had to park a few blocks from the crime scene. She started walking down the block, greeting familiar neighbors who stayed on their lawns.

As she walked up, her eyes slightly widened at the familiar house. She shook her head and walked on the steps of the house. The team greeted her as she walked into the living room.

"Hey, Kenzie," said Rigsby.

"Hey."

She and Rigsby stopped in front of the two victims. A woman and a child lay on the ground, motionless. She ignored the chills that ran down her back.

"Victims' names are Ruby and Peter Henderson, ages 29 and 6," said Cho. "She was a single mother. The kid has blunt force trauma to the back of the head. Mom was shot twice in the stomach."

"Horrible way to die," commented Teresa.

"Yeah," trailed off Kenzie. She turned to Rigsby. "Hey, were there any witnesses?"

"Yeah. Some of them were outside."

"I'll go talk to them. See if they heard anything."

She walked out of the house, not noticing Patrick following her.

As soon as she was outside, the neighbors eagerly waved at her, saying their hellos. She smiled at them. She gave them small hugs before asking her questions about the scene. The next-door neighbors said that they heard arguing. They also thought that they heard fireworks and assumed it was from the festival, now understanding that it was gunshots.

Kenzie stood in front of an elderly neighbor. "Did you see anything?"

"No," said the neighbor. "It was too dark to see anything, especially with my glasses. I'm sorry, my dear girl."

"It's alright, Ellis. You still answered my questions. That's all that matters."

Ellis hummed before staring at something over Kenzie's shoulder. "Who is that?"

Kenzie quickly turned to see Patrick walking toward them. "That is Patrick Jane. He's our consultant."

"He could consult me anytime."

"Ellis!"

Patrick wrapped an arm around Kenzie. "Hello, ladies. And who might this be?"

"Patrick, this is Ellis. Patrick, Ellis."

"Kenzie, you picked a good one."

"What were you two talking about?"

"Ellis said that she heard some noise coming from the house. She didn't see anything."

"Did she?"

"Yes, I did. I would never lie."

"Oh, I'm sure you wouldn't, Ellis. Especially to Kenzie. You used to watch her when she would visit, didn't you?"
