Kenzie swallowed the bile, trying to raise up her throat. A man was burned alive in his car in an alleyway.

Kenzie looked up to see Patrick holding a pair of shoes. She walked up to him. "What'd you find?"

"Not sure yet," he said.

They walked over to the back door of a building. Kenzie raised her gun. Patrick opened the door. They walked in and saw a glamorous stage. Kenzie placed her gun in her holster. She looked around in awe.

"Why do I have to go up first?" asked a drag queen.

"'Cause you are always first," said someone else.

"Girl! Just 'cause I'm the only one that shows up..." Everyone on the stage turned around, seeing Patrick and Kenzie. "Oh! Uh... We'll be out soon."

"Huh? Oh, we aren't here for..." trailed off Kenzie.

"Does this belong to anyone?" asked Patrick, raising the pair of heels. The queens on stage murmured.

"I guess it's true what they say– 'time wounds all heels.'" said one of the drag queens. "These are my favorite."

Kenzie gave her a wave. "Hi. I'm Agent Patterson with the CBI. What's your name?" She didn't say anything. "We found your heel in the alleyway, along with a dead man. He'd been set on fire."

"Oh, we heard the sirens outside, but we had no idea."

"What were you doing in the alley?"

"Enjoying an Ultra Slim. I always smoke a cigarette before the first show."

"And what time were you out there?"

"I don't know exactly. 8:30?"

"The arson investigator says the fire was set sometime between 8:45 and 9:00."

"Oh, well, Glennda was with us by then," said one of the drag queens.

"Yeah, that's right," said another. "She helped me into my compression garments."

"I was," said Glennda. "Who died? Who was it?"

"We don't know," said Kenzie.

"Two minutes to curtain, girls!"

"If you'll excuse me, the stage is calling." Glennda goes to get up, but Kenzie politely steps in front of her.

"Hang on. Did you see anybody in the alley?"

"As a matter of fact, there was a man in a parked car, watching me."

"What did he look like?"

"I couldn't see his face. It was dark. But I felt vulnerable, so I hightailed it back into the club, and that's when I felt my heel break."

"Why didn't you pick up your heel?"

"In this dress, darling?"

She and Patrick watched as Glennda got up on stage.

"I think he's telling the truth," said Patrick.

"I do, too. But we should still bring him in for a statement."

Kenzie looked up to see some of the drag queens walking toward and pulling toward the stage. She looked back at Patrick with a huge smile.

"Don't tell Res," she mouthed.
