While Cho and Teresa organize their gear: loud guns and pack kits, Kenzie watches Patrick and Van Pelt walk around the room close together. Rigsby walks in.
"Victim is Christine Tanner," says Teresa. "Fifteen. Drowned. Washed up on the beach in Santa Marta. Who's got the ultraviolet?"
Rigsby tosses her the ultraviolet wand and starts packing.
"So she drowned. Why us?"
"Coroner found a head wound consistent with getting hit by a surfboard and found water in her lungs, only it was ditch-water. No salt and a lot of bugs," explains Kenzie.
"The Santa Marta Sheriff's not taking this one," questions Van Pelt.
"State beach, State case," says Teresa.
Teresa looks at the photo of Christine on her computer screen. Patrick and Van Pelt are near Kenzie and Teresa. They occasionally turn different ways. Teresa stares at Patrick and Van Pelt as his hand is on Van Pelt's wrist. His eyes are half-closed.
"All right, what are you doing?"
"Grace is mentally telling me where she hid the key to the van. If I find them, I get to drive," explains Patrick.
Teresa leans over to Kenzie, whispering, "How long they've been doing this?"
Kenzie shrugs, "I don't know."
"So now you're a psychic."
"No. No. It's all science."
"That's not science," exclaims Kenzie.
With his hand on Van Pelt's wrist, Patrick pirouettes away with her. The guys watch as well.
"Keep concentrating, Grace... With your mind only, tell me forward, backward, right, left..."
"How is that science," questions Cho.
Rigsby shushes Cho, causing Kenzie to let out a chuckle. Patrick puts out his hand.
"He watched you hide the keys."
"From the men's room? Now that would be a trick."
Jane reaches past Van Pelt and into the planter behind her. He pulls out the keys.
"Who's got shotgun?"
🙂
While the guys were at a beach, the girls were at Christine's house. In the living room, it was a cluttered mess. They're talking to Christine's father, Jack. Kenzie can see his hollow eyes. She knew what that meant.
She looks at the younger children, Lisa and Micah. She can also feels Van Pelt staring at her and Teresa like a hawk.
"Excuse the mess. Chris was the house-proud one around here," says Jack.
"We understand. Mr. Tanner, we may have to ask some tough questions," says Kenzie, looking at the kids, specifically Lisa. Lisa reminds Kenzie of her younger self.
"Huh? Oh, that's okay. Can't tell Lisa nothing she hasn't heard before, and Micah don't give a damn. Slow. He's only sad because he sees Lisa is."
"All the same..." says Teresa.
With her father's nod, Lisa leads her brother out. Teresa and Kenzie watches them leave.
"When did you notice Chrstine missing?"
"Yesterday morning. She hadn't made nothing for the kids. I realized I hadn't seen her in a while. She might be away for one night without my knowing, but..."
