Y/n's POV:
After dinner I open their presents, which all were early wedding gifts. "You guys..."
"Don't say anything, just take them," Two smiled at me.
"Thank you," I said, wiping a tear away.
"Darling, why are you crying?" Soda asked, a slight grin tugging at his face.
"They're happy tears. It's been an emotional day," I laugh a little.
Soda intertwines our fingers and brushes some hair out of my face. "It has, but it's been a good day."
The gang leaves sporadically, leaving Steve, Darry, Pony, Soda, and me. I step out onto the porch as they clean up, Steve behind me.
"I'm glad to have you back Cookie," Steve smiled, grabbing my shoulder and pulling me into him.
"It's good to be back," I return the smile and look up at the night sky.
"You and Soda gonna start planning your wedding?" Steve asked as he looked up at the sky.
"Yeah, I guess we will," I smile, realizing I'm actually getting married to him.
Steve notices my smile and says, "You two are good for each other. I'm happy you're getting married."
"Thank you Steve," I smile at him. He leaves me alone standing out there and I enjoy watching the stars, sitting quietly with my thoughts.
I eventually go back inside and Steve is already asleep on the couch. I smile and roll my eyes, wanting to sleep myself. I feel a hand grab mine and I look over to see Soda. He smiles quietly, placing a finger to his lips and leading me to his bedroom. We crawl into bed and he wraps his arms tight around me.
"I'm happy you're home," he whispers into my hair.
"I'm happy to be home," I whisper back, slowly drifting off into sleep.
Over the next few months, me and Soda plan for our wedding. We decided to keep it small, just the gang and Tim Shepard's gang, since Mary was now Curly's girlfriend. We figured we'd have it in the backyard and the gang all pitches in to help set up. As the date nears closer, my nerves become more and more apparent. I'm excited to start my new chapter with Soda, but part of me feels like I'm leaving Steve behind.
On the wedding day, Mary comes over to my house to help me get ready. She squeals and pulls me into a hug, as she starts crying a little. "Mary, you shouldn't be the one crying," I tease, my own eyes beginning to tear.
"Shut up and let me have this," she grumbled, squeezing me before letting me go. "Let's go get you ready for the best day of your life."
We walk to my room and she helps me change into my dress. She curls my hair and does my makeup as we talk and laugh together. I put my heels on and stare at myself in the mirror as she gets ready.
"You look beautiful dear. Ready for your first look with Steve?" She asks, hugging me from behind. I nod, and she opens the door, revealing Steve. I turn around and stare at his shocked expression.
"Cookie..." was all he could manage. I blink back my tears and hug him as he holds me close. "You look great sis."
"Don't tell Soda what I look like," I smile a little.
He chuckles at my request. "I won't. He'll be surprised when he sees you walking down that aisle."
"Okay, you need to get going so Soda can wait for her," Mary says after a couple minutes, rushing Steve out the house.
"He's gonna love it Cookie!" He shouts behind his shoulder. I smile, turning back around and looking at myself in the mirror.
"I can't believe I'm doing this," I whisper. I slowly put on my necklace and bracelet, taking good care of my mother's old jewelry. "I wish you were here Mom." I gently kiss my fingers and lightly touch her picture.
Mary walks in gently rubs my arm. "You ready?" She asked in a quiet, gentle tone.
"Yeah, I'm ready," I give her confident smile and she grabs my bouquet and we head out the door.
I wait in the Curtis living room as everyone bustles around outside, getting ready for the wedding. I hear the music begin to play and stand up, grabbing my bouquet. Two of Tim Shepard's gang members open the door, revealing me. I look up at Soda and want to cry.
I slowly walk down the aisle and smile up at him as he looks at me in total awe. Once i get to the altar, Soda reaches a hand out, taking mine and bringing me in front of him. I hand Mary the flowers and turn towards Soda as everyone sits down.
Darry stands before us as our officiant. "It's my understand you two wrote vows for each other?"
We nod our heads and Soda pulls out a piece of paper from his suit. "I'm no poet, so don't hate me." I laugh quickly as a tears falls from my cheek.
"It was many and many a year ago, in a kingdom by the sea, that a maiden there lived whom you may know by the name of Cookie Randle; and this maiden she lived with no other thought than to love and be loved by me. I was a child and she was a child, in this kingdom by the sea, but we loved a love that was more than love- I and my Cookie Randle- with a love that the winged seraphs of Heaven coveted her and me. And this was the reason that, long ago, in this kingdom by the sea, a wind blew out of a cloud, chilling my Cookie Randle; so that her highborn kinsmen came and bore her away from me, to shut her up in a sepulchre in this kingdom by the sea. The angels, not half so happy in Heaven, went envying her and me- Yes!- that was the reason that the wind came out of the cloud by night, chilling and killing my Cookie Randle. But our love it was stronger by far than the love of those who were older than we, of many far wiser than we, and neither the angels in Heaven above nor the demons down under the sea can ever dissever my soul of the beautiful Cookie Randle; for the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams, of the beautiful Cookie Randle; and the stars never rise, but I feel the bright eyes of the beautiful Cookie Randle; and so, all the night tide I lie down by the side of my darling, my darling, my life and my bride, in her sepulchre by the sea- in her tomb by the sounding sea. My beautiful Cookie Randle."
He looks up at me and tears stream quietly down my face. He quietly takes a step closer and wipes my tears away. "I stole it from Edgar Allan Poe, I hope he doesn't mind," he whispers softly in my ear as I smile.
"Cookie, your turn," Darry says softly.
I grab a piece of paper from Mary and carefully unfold it. "Mine isn't as nice as yours." Soda gives me a reassuring smile and I start.
"With this hand I lift your sorrows. Your cup will be empty, for I will be your wine. With this candle, I light your way in the darkness. With this ring, I ask you to be mine." I carefully fold the paper back up and look at Soda. He leans back over and wipes my tears.
Pony hands a pillow to us, with rings on it. I gasp as I see the rings and carefully take his in my hand. Soda smiles as he sees my gasp and carefully picks up my ring.
"With this ring, I, Soda, take you, Y/n, to be no other than yourself. Loving what I know of you, and trusting what I do not yet know, I will respect your integrity and have faith in your abiding love for me, through all our years, and in all that life my bring us."
He gently took my hand and slipped the ring on. It took all my willpower to not just stand there admire it. I will never know how he afforded this, but damn, it's beautiful. I repeat his words, placing his ring on his finger.
"I now pronounce you husband and wife!" Darry cheered.
Soda pulled me in by my waist and smiled. "This is the best part," he whispered as I wrapped my arms around his neck. He kissed me passionately as everyone cheered around us. After a minute or so, he pulled away and grabbed my hand.
"Towards our new chapter?" He looked over at me, his eyes sparkling.
"Towards our new chapter," I agreed, smiling as we ran down the aisle holding hands.
