Bondita's heart pounded as she processed the revelation. Her shock quickly turned to a burning need for answers. She approached the old man, who was now resting in a chair, rocking the small boy to deep slumber.

Her eyes turned glassy when she glanced back at Saudamini 's black and white portrait and then at the old man. She could see the anguish, the anger and the tears reflecting in the old man's eyes.

She knelt down beside the chair, kept a hand on his one's patting the boy's head.

" Yeh sab... kaise? Kaise chal basi woh? " Her words trembled when they came out of her lips. It was weaker than a whisper.

" Karmon ki saza mili hai...bas aur kuch nahi " The old man's face tightened, a shadow passing over his features . He looked at Bondita dead in the eyes as if it held no emotions. " Cancer....last stage "

Bondita's heart ached with sympathy for the woman she desperately wanted to hate, and somewhere in her she hated too, even despise her, but she couldn't seem to hate her now as she died a painful death.

Her gaze went to the baby boy who was soundly sleeping on his chest clutching his collar. Her eyes softened for a second seeing the innocence in him.

" Aap kya lagte hai unke? " Mohit asked the question from behind which she might forget to ask.

The man looked at him as if he was listening to a joke and he let out a small laugh in a creepy way that almost scared them.

" Tumhe kya lagta hai main kon ho sakta hu? Akhir kon aadmi kisi aur ki saza iss hadd tak bhugadta hai. Aaj tak... Aaj TAK main bhugat raha hu. Aur beta aisi saza maa baap ke alawa aur kisi mein bhugatne ki himmat nahi hai " he scoffed sarcastically making his point but Bondita couldn't unsee the sadness in his eyes for his late daughter. He might be mad at her but he couldn't unlove her.

" Sach kaha aapne... ek aulad ki saza bhugatne ki himmat sirf ek maa baap mein hi ho sakti hai" Bondita said making his gaze turn to her. " Par har galati ya gunah ke baad bhi... maafi dene ki himmat sirf maa baap mein hi ho sakti hai. " She said wiping the tears which were finally falling from his eyes .

The stoic exterior crumbled like a sand castle and finally the vulnerability of his emotions were on the surface now .

" Aap ko lagta hai ki aap apni beti se nafrat karte hain par ek baap jitna bhi chahe apni beti se nafrat nahi kar paata chahe usne kitni bhi gunaahen na ki ho. Ek pita ke liye uski beti hamesha wo nanhi si jaan rehti hai jo kabhi uske baba ki ungli pakad duniya ghuma karti thi. "

Satyajeet Bhoumik was blind in love for his daughter for years. His love made her a narcissistic, greedy woman who did a lot of awful things. He still welcomed her in his arms when she came back to him 4 months pregnant, kicked out by her English husband. But he hated her for what she did with the little boy. He never had an ideal daughter, he thought he had but it wasn't the case. But now he was looking at the girl who was sitting on her knees and feeling empathy for the dead woman even after listening to the awful things she did ....... ohhh! He wished he had a daughter like her.

Placing his free hand on the top of her head he patted it softly.

" Tumhare baba bohot lucky hai beta jo unhe tum Jaisi beti mili " he said, feeling envious of the man who raised her.

Bondita let out a tearful chuckle listening to his words. " Pata nahi uncle. Shayad honge. Par main itni lucky nahi hu. " She spoke lowering her eyes. " Mujhe unka chehra tak yaad nahi hai... aur naahi naam yaad hai. "

It saddened his heart.

Her focus suddenly went to the boy sleeping in his arms and her heart broke more of the similarities between them. " Iski tarah maine bhi apne maa baap Ko kho diya tha...iski Umar mein. "
