The quick reaction to run his burn under cold water saved Adrien some serious damage. His hand still stung, but after a late night ER trip, and some prescription ointment, he knew he'd be ok. First degree burn, painful but no need for anything like a skin graft. Although with his hand wrapped up with a thick dressing and bandage, he couldn't do much with it at the moment. So his editing would have to be put on pause for a while, it was the perfect time for him to... well, get everything out there.
He'd had to swap his rings onto his other hand, which felt a bit weird. He'd always had them on the hand he burnt, not feeling them in their usual spot gave him a few 'shit, where are they?!' moments, before remembering they were just on his other hand. When he'd swapped his rings over, he got a good look at his 'life ring' as he'd taken to calling it. The simple silver band with a line trough it, he always wondered why the twin rings were so special to his mothers family, even long before his birth. They weren't any precious expensive materials or any elaborate gemstone layouts. Just a simple silver band. He knew why his mother was so protective of it after his birth though... and he couldn't blame her for it.
That afternoon, after Luka would be back from his class that day, Adrien made his way over to his boyfriends apartment. The cat was sun-baking on the balcony as usual, and spotted him before he even got in the front doors of the apartment complex, meowing loudly and rushing inside to wait at Luka's front door. That's how Luka knew he'd arrived, the cat detected him every time. So Adrien didn't even have to knock, he just walked in, almost tripping over the cat rushing to his feet in the process.
"Geez Quinn-" he chuckled.
"He loves you" Luka replied, putting down his laptop to come greet the blonde.
As Adrien expected, the first thing Luka noticed with his hand. His smile quickly turning to concern and carefully lifting it into his own hands.
"What happened? Are you ok?" He asked.
"Burnt myself, spilled boiling water" Adrien replied.
"Adrien-"
"Yeah, I know"
Luka sighed, shaking his head. He wasn't surprised to be honest. Despite his skill as Cat Noir, Adrien never was that balanced in his civilian form. Luka pulled him into a hug, kissing his forehead.
"You're a danger to yourself" he joked, although that was half true.
"Tell me about it- I'm fine though, only first degree burn, it'll heal on its own" Adrien replied.
"Only? Adrien that's still painful"
"I'm fine, Luka. Really"
And he was... in the burn department that is. There was still a lot on his mind regarding, well... everything else. He came here for a reason, now he had to carry it out. Luka always seemingly had the ability to tell when someone was nervous or feeling off, because his worry didn't alleviate even with the assurance the burn wasn't anything life changing.
"What's wrong?" He asked, his expression serious.
"Can... can we talk? There's something you should know... don't worry I'm not breaking up with you or anything. But it is kind of... serious" Adrien replied.
Luka kept his arm around Adrien, simply leading him to come sit together on the sofa. The cat following, squishing himself between them like the attention seeker he was. Adrien wasn't really sure where to start, but he took the ring off his finger and began to fiddle with it to try and gather his thoughts on the matter.
"I don't really know how to explain this- it's kind of a long story" he began.
"From the beginning then, I have time" Luka replied.
