In the quiet peaceful morning, where on one hand, people are getting ready to go out for their work, ladies have started their morning by praying to gods and children have come out to meet their friends and play. On the other hand, one girl is peacefully sleeping in a room and twisting and turning but sleep doesn't seem to leave her that is, unless someone decided to separate them. A pigeon came flying right at her window and then on her face and started nudging and picking the girl's eyebrow's hair. The girl's instict rose and she slowly twitched her fingers and blinked her eyes and adjusted the light in her sight. Then as she looked clearly, by then the pigeon was now on her neck, biting on her necklace and thinking it's food, picking on it. The girl, when saw the pigeon, instead of screaming or shooing him away, she grinned and slowly wrapped her hands over the petite body of his and lifted him up in the air. Then after sitting up, she brought it near her lips and kissed it on the head. And then after standing up, she took it near the window and released him and he flew away in air. Then as he was out of sight, the girl's smile dropped and she looked here and there realised and painfully accepting her situation and condition of present.

I can hardly believe what I am seeing in front of me but the only thing I can do is to accept this reality and try to fit in, atleast till the moment I find a way to go back.

I turned back and started walking towards the front lawn to pick out the datunn (neem's thin branch) to brush my teeth. Honestly, it's so hard and so time consuming to just chew on the branch and your teeth will shine bright, seriously? After washing my mouth nicely, I started walking towards well to collect water in the bucket in order to take bath. As there were only 4 wells in this whole village and one big river in the side between the village and the big forest and it's said that on the order side of the forest, the British Colonel lives. Even though I know nothing about him yet but I don't want to get involved with him in any way so I will just mind my own business and find out about that 'Cedric' so that I can stay away from him. That psychopathic man, it's best if I stay far from him if he is alive now.

I took the water-filled bucket and started walking back towards my house while nodding at the people of this village and as I came back to the aangan, I took a pleasant bath and only stopped when I was satisfied with the cleanliness of my body.

Afterwards, I wrapped a towel and came in my room and then picked out a beautiful looking Green Lehenga and wore it with my simple green stone earrings and applied Kohl under my ear and after wearing my anklets, I came out of my room.

Then I went to the kitchen to search for maa. It still feels weird to call her maa but I have to get used to it. I can't help it when the situation is desperate.

I looked in the kitchen and searched for maa and I found her busy in grinding spices. I quietly went towards her and called out to her almost in a wishper. And she looked at me, smiling and asked if I am ready.

I looked confused at her and asked for what. She raised her eyebrows and asked if I forgot again. I searched through my entire brain but couldn't find what she was talking about and so I asked her about it.

She sighed and said that we have to go for Sia's birthday celebration. At first, I was thinking who is she? Just then, it stirked me, maa's best friend's daughter and this year, she will be 5 years old. Okay, I guess, I can go as she lives in this village only.

I asked her about the functions of the celebration. She said that in the morning, there will be a Pooja in the village's big temple and in the evening, there will be a feast for us.

As they were also a small farming family like us, they couldn't give a feast to the whole village and have a luxury party but I didn't mind it. Instead, I was really curious as to how it's going to be like. I have never gone to a party like this and especially in this year.

I asked her about my look to she approved and told me to have breakfast and then go to Megha's house and then straight away go to the temple. I nodded my head and went to get my breakfast.

Oh, thank god I didn't have to change anything or else I might just would have refused to go. I am quite lazy and a complete peace lover. Most of the time, I am with myself and I would love to call myself a big otaku.

I love watching anime and reading manga's but here, there is education for women. No anime, no manga, no phone, like seriously nothing, how am I supposed to entertain myself here? By watching birds? By fetching water from the river? By running around in village? By cooking food?

Sure, I can and I may, but I am stressed about finding a way to get out so I can't relax, even for a minute. And that's why I think, I should go to this feast, at least I can relax for a bit and think with fresh mind.

Thinking all this, I barely noticed when my breakfast got over and I stood up with my plate and kept it in the backyard near the water pots and then after washing my hands, I came back to my room and fixed my dress to go out.

Then, I went to maa and asked her if I look alright. She almost nodded her head but then she came towards me and took the veil and covered my face with it. As I asked her why she is doing this, she just kept a finger on her lips and said that young unmarried girls are not allowed to wander in the village without a veil.

When I asked her about the reason, she said that as in the other side of the forest, there's a villa where the head Colonel of Britishers lives there and he is not someone to mess with. Everyone calls him captain here and no dares to come in his way. And because he takes us villagers as either slaves or workers for their factory, they treat them very brutally.

He takes girls as his maids, willing or unwilling doesn't matter for him. He is a living monster and you should stay away from him and his men. She even told me that he is a man drenched in ambition and darkness. Always killing and torturing people as per his will.

I assured her that I will not involve myself in any kind of trouble and she can rest assured about me. Then she just kissed my forehead over the fabric of my veil and then told me to go quickly. And so, I stepped out of the main door and started going towards Megha's house.
