It's a long chapter. Sorry I tried my best to keep it short but I just couldn't.
Also it's quite sensitive so you can skip the part.
Thank you 💟

"You know when they say if you love her then let her go? Don't do this anymore. Just let me go and forget about me. It'd be better...for both of us." It's no joke when I broke my heart to replay the tape recorder and spoke out.
He didn't look at me. For the first time, he took this longer to look at me like this. Usually, he's the first one to stare at me when I am speaking or admiring something. Yet here I am, desperate for his eyes to fall on me. As if a concubine waiting for her turn from the emperor.
Difference is, I know I am the only one for him but it still hurts me by thinking the fact that he can't be mine.
It's been four days since he decided to stay with us until he convinces my parents. When asked him about his life in his town or his military work, he replied as if they mean nothing to him anymore.
"I didn't come after you this far only to let you go. I love you and I will win you back, no matter what costs." The tone in his speech was surprisingly determined as if he was sure about that fact.
"This is only going to hurt you. Haven't you looked at the way these villagers are glaring at you? Some even picked up tree trunks to shoo you away. Yet you don't fear your life at all? If not for the sensible people in this village, you would've been a rotten meat already." Every single drop of anger, concern and fear took over me when my lips delivered out the words from the core of my heart.
💂 "Risking my life is nothing. Maybe, like this, I will be able to repent for my sins against this village and these people who suffered under me."
🌼 "They still do. And they wiil do, even after you die. I wish we could easily throw you all out of our country too but even I know that it isn't so easy. And this resentment will only grow more feral when another Colonel is appointed after you. Yes, I hope he won't be cruel like you."
💂 "See? This is what I meant. I was cruel. Far too cruel than my imagination. I thought I was just doing what I am told and took out my resentment on these people but now I know, they weren't in the wrong in the first place."
🌼 "I am glad you finally know it. But you should know this too that if you're going to continue this any longer then you won't be getting any fruit out of it."
💂 "I don't care about anyone else. As long as I have you, I don't care about anyone's hatred towards me and my life. I agree I was cruel on them and I promise to not be so pathetic for any longer than this. But if they are going to stop me like this then, I am not sure that I'll be able to keep my promise. I don't want anyone to come in between us. Not these villagers, not this village, not this world, no one." The last part seemed more like a confession than a promise.
Baba also forbid me to go outside the house because he didn't leave from our frontyard for two entire days.
But I couldn't take any more of it, when baba walked out for his farm work. I begged maa to let me go out and only then, I walked out.
Finding sitting in the same place for the last two days without going anywhere else.
Every villager scorned at baba and maa for letting this Britisher stay here but when they heard that he's staying here on his will and not by taking anyone's permission. They were hella mad at him. But because they know the consequences of going against them, no one dared to hit him or beat him.
