Life doesn't always go as planned.
Not even a week has passed by when I have already encountered his mother more than ten times in a day in the mansion. And because of that, I can't even go out anymore.
Not sure why but Cedric says not to meet her without him or Ben. So I don't, well, not on my own account. But they say that if you are running away from something or someone, it will surely chase after you and that's what is happening with me for the past few days.
The first time we met was when we came back from the market that day and her affection level towards me was already negative. Way too negative that she didn't even bother hiding it in front of Cedric.
Ok sure, this is what Indian television serials have prepared me for. You got this, Isha.
I didn't got it.
"So, I didn't catch you name again?"
The second time we met was just the other day for a morning tea time. And due to that, I had to wake up two hours early than I usually wake up.
Cedric had no problem with it and was always smiling, never complaining. His only complaint?
'You are mine now so don't even think about going back.'
Although, he never clearly said it out loud like he used to but his buttery words carried the same energy. And for some reason, I didn't catch myself complaining to that either. There's something seriously wrong with me.
Coming back to main point. Madame Dorothy, is currently interrogating me to check whether I am someone to stay beside Cedric or not. As if she is worthy enough of being called a mother herself. But who's going to say that. Not me.
I would lie if I said I didn't feel scared of her at all but being with Cedric for some time now, I've known how to perfectly hide my dear emotions from these rotten to core Britishers.
And now, I am putting it on test.
"Isha, my name is Isha Mukherjee."
Her face held disgust for a brief moment before she hid it expertly and took a sip from her cup with I don't know, rose tea? Who in the world even drinks that?
But then again, Victorian period was not one of the best eras in these criteria. So, it doesn't come as a suprise that she's wearing a modest floral half face covering hat in a hot day like this when I am sweating in my custom made dress, a mix of a lehenga and a saree.
Anyways, after that, she began to shower every possible question about me and my background. I mean, Hello? This should be done by my father from Cedric. Why is it getting reversed here? No questions asked from men?
Yet I wasn't furious enough until she started asking things like,'Do you have any embroidery skills?','How many types of tea can you drink?','Any herbal knowledge?','Do you wear crochet?' and as if that wasn't weird, the upcoming one gave out her mentality right away. 'Where would you like to be if you were to suddenly die?' My honest answer, modern world. Thank you, end of discussion.
And that's how the second meet ended up when Cedric approached us and took his mother away with some excuses.
That's how I was saved by my villainous fiance.
Then came the third meet, the family dinner with Cedric and I. And how many times do these people change clothes in a day? This is the third gown I have seen on her this entire day.
Anyways, the dinner was awkwardly silent as if a mute cold war was going between the mother and the son and honestly? I didn't even want to be a part of it.
