Let's explore the bookstore today.
I stepped down from the villa and started looking here and there for a carriage or something like that, which I can't find anywhere near me so I guess I have to walk up some sort of stand or something similar to find one or if I am lucky enough, I may find one, on the way.
And I am now walking, tilting my head to every direction possible and searching for a carriage or hand pulled rickshaw. But nothing could be seen anywhere nearby. Guess I will have to ask someone in this case.
I turned to my side to find someone who can help me but everyone seems busy like hell. No one here has time to even talk to each other it seems. Well, other than the person they came with, that is.
In our village, every other person used to greet each other and smiling happily, aunties also used to share their day to day life activities geniunely sharing their opinion but here, people mind their own business and are least concerned about others. So self sophisticated they are. In 2024, it's the same case too.
Just as I looked at the main road, my sixth sense told me that someone is coming in front and just as I looked in front, I was about to collide into some lady.
When I carefully looked at her, I saw her facial features and her angry expression. Her ginger hair was in a low loose bun decorated with lilies and her amber eyes were on flame in anger. Finally, I got someone's attention atleast.
I should ask her about the bookstore direction and if I'll get there by walking. Just as I was about to apologise to her, she started speaking,
"Ugh, you insolent woman. Why are you all Indians the same? Idiot. Don't you have eyes? Can't you see? Where in the world were you looking?"
Okay, maybe I thought wrong. Why are most of the Britishers like this though? Now, should I fight back? Let's just see where this goes.
Just then the woman standing behind her kept her gloved fingers over her mouth and laughing like a chihuahua, she said,"Let her be, Merinda. Look at what she is wearing. She definitely doesn't look one from the city. She is probably from a village so your words were in vain."
Are they mocking me? Clearly looks like one to me.
As and then, woman named Merinda also kept her hand sideways over her mouth and smiling like a witch, looking at me with mocking eyes, she said,
"You are right, Lola. I wasted my time on this stupid woman. Bloody Indians. Its like speaking to a wall. Can't even speak English, can she?"
Enough with the mocking already. Looks like I have to teach them a lesson. If I am going to be late only, let it be for a enjoyable reason.
I, then, smirking, crossed my hands in front of my chest and leveling my feet, I made a direct eye contact with Merinda and looking at me, she said,
"Look at her. As if trying to imitate us. She chose the wrong land to stand on."
"And you chose the wrong land to enter."
"Hark!!" Both of them screamed when heard me speak English. And their looks, goodness, if I had my phone with me, I would love to take their photos and keep it as a souvenir.
Its as if they were given rotten fish for the breakfast with water from drain. A complete state of shock and fear. Good, that's how I wanted it. I've always imagined what it would be like when as a Indian, these Britishers will hear us say English. Even though town's children are now being learned English but its not the same for villagers. So yeah, it's fun to eat up their expression.
