"Alright done"
I wiped the sweat out of my face and wiped my hands in the fabric of my skirt. I looked around me and checked if I had took everything needed.
Flowers, check. Black leaves, check. Small berries, check. Hmm, do I need anything else? No I think this is enough. So I picked up my basket and started walking in order to get out of the forest when suddenly I felt my hands itchy for some reason.
When looked at my palms, there was the juice of the berries stuck between my fingers. Ugh, can this day get any worse? I just climbed up the tree in order to pick these berries and got bitten by a nearby red ant then my foot almost slipped from the trunk and now this. Just what I needed!
I kept my basket on the ground and went towards the river and then sat there on the ground. Then I dipped my hand in the cool flowing water of the river and and started rubbing my hands under the water surface while thinking about how I ended up in this situation.
Few hours before
"Isha!"
Maa called me when I was playing with the calves in the backyard. So I left them there and went towards her.
As I reached the kitchen, I found her cutting vegetables and beside her was Megha, boiling water in the pot, over the fire. And the moment I came inside, they both looked at me and then Megha again continued doing her work while maa gestured me to go closer towards her.
So I did and when it was satisfactory enough, she asked me that if I can to the forest. I was at first, shocked and that vivid image of that man was still in my mind, so I thought that maybe if I keep avoiding to go there, I'll be safe and the way he was carrying that dead body, it still gives me the chills.
And besides, she never lets me step outside of the house unnecessarily so why now? I asked her if she needed something. She, after hearing my question, first looked at her lap and then again at me, saying,"Haan beti wo thode se fool, kariya pata aur kuch fal chahiye the." (Yes daughter, just some flowers, black leaves and fruits are needed.)
"Haan to maa wo to bazaar se bhi kharid h na?" (Yes mother, but we can buy those from the market right?)
"Haan par.......abhi kyunki kar bahut jayda h to saman ka daam bhi bahut jayda h aur abhi utne paise h nhi aur aaj teri maasi aa rhi h apno baccho ke saath, apne gaon se." (Yeah but.....due to the taxes we don't enough money and your aunt is also coming here today with her children, from her village.)
"Thik h to fal samajh aata h, kariya patta samajh aata h par fool?" (Okay, fruits I understand, black leaves I also understand but what's the need of flowers?)
"Haan wo socha ki bacho ko de deti, unko pasand h aur yahan ke fool wahan nhi hote h" (I thought I will give it to her children as the flowers growing here doesn't grow there.)
"Kheton ke paas bhi nhi h, ye fool?" (Aren't they near the crops?)
"Nhi beti. Issiliye puch rhi thi, nhi jaana h to matt ja, main kisi aur gaon waale se puch ke bhejti hoon." (No daughter, that's why I am asking you, if you wanna just tell me okay? I will send somebody else from the village.)
Maa, you told me and then you are saying you will tell someone else to do it? Then why did ask me for?
I sighed saying,"no worries maa, I'll go and come back."
"Yeah but take care and don't invite trouble in your life, got it?"
"Yeah maa, I know. I will come back safely and without calling any trouble in my life." I said while going away in my room to fix my clothes and take the basket. Not knowing that the trouble is waiting for her with his arms open there.
