Cassandra
I felt their eyes pierce straight through me, judging my decision and words before they were even made. I held a-lot of power in the kingdom, and while I could make my own decision on what to do, it was customary for nothing official to be done without the approval of the Council and the Order.
"We heard of this weapon you've discovered..." a councilmen started.
I felt a twinge in my heart, but ignored it and pulled myself together. I sat, silent for a few seconds, trying to find the best way to avoid the matter.
"I wouldn't put my hopes on weapon, per se. Were still testing, still figuring out what it is we have and if its worth it" I answered. I calculate my words, spewing what best would throw them off this subject.
"Maze is busy at work on the wolf, and arrangements are in order for what will be done, but nothing has been seriously decided for now. On more serious matters, our blood supply has been up, but our numbers in hunting men has decreased. The human city becomes more dangerous each century that passes..." I ramble on for a few minutes about the conditions of our coven as they continue to listen.
"With all due respect Queen Cullen, this wasn't a call for a general meeting. We know what goes on, what we don't know is why we have a wolf in our walls, that deprives us of our cattle, wounds our soldiers, and has been otherwise treated above our own as Prince Leonel has told us" a High Order man interrupts. The rest nod in agreement all stating their own points on what should become of this wolf, prying me for information as I try to evade.
Eventually they catch on,
"Your words are purposefully vague, and your actions do not seem to have our interest at hearts, a few of us wish to evaluate the wolf. Its power, tameability, etc. We will see it in 3 nights time..."I tried to protest, but they put it to a vote. I was unanimously shut down. The meeting ended and they bowed and dispersed.
The guards lead me out,
"I shall head to my room now" I told them, and waved them away. They both looked at eachother, then me, standing in the same place.
One got on his knee and bowed as he spoke
"My queen, I apologize but we believe there is a matter you must attend to before you may rest.""What matter?" I inquired.
"The guard you attac- disciplined, Felix. His family has questions about his injuries, along with his partner. They have been coming to the gates for the past nights since the incident waiting for a response... what shall we tell them?" The other gaurd pulled out a pen and paper ready to write my words as I spoke.
I hadn't known his name was Felix, but I do remember the I had hurt him severely. One of my personal men at that.
"I shall handle the matter personally, lead me to their stayings" the looked at each other surprised, but lead me to their home in the town. As we walked the people started to crowd out, eyes followed as we walked, all wondering what I had come for.
We made our way to a small house, much more disheveled than the normal homes in town. Before we could approach the door a short brown haired man stood outside.
His eyes filled with rage and his body blocking the doors inside.
"BOW IN THE PRESENCE OF THE QUEEN!" The gaurds said in unison.
The little man held his head high, as I looked closer I recognized him and one of my personal guards i'd set to watch Kali.
I didnt know they were partners? I thought.
He refused to bow, which had not bothered me, i understood his fury.
"Stand down." I told the gaurds as I approached him. I could see his body shiver with fear as I walked towards him but he didnt budge.
"I would like to see Felix and his family, I understand your anger sir-
"Damien" he cut me off
"Damien." I smiled. I was looking down at him at this point.
"With all due respect, Queen, he is harmed because of your failure to assess the situation" he was certainly a brave one, I heard as the crowd that had formed behind me gasp.
I sent the guards to disperse the crowd as I talked to him.
"I cannot apologize for my actions, I gave a clear directive that was disobeyed. But felix is still one if my close guards and i'd like to see his progress and family... please" I told him softly, doing my best to diffuse his anger.
"No" he told me. He had stopped shivering, and was standing still, no longer with fury in his eyes but determination to seemingly keep me out.
I didn't push him anymore. I told the gaurds to give me the bag I had ordered them to bring and handed it to Damien.
"What is this?" He asked, confused.
"What I owed him and his family" i responded. I turned around and left before I could see his reaction, the guards quickly followed.
I had brought a bag of some gold his family could use to help with his medication and finances. I had hoped that would smooth things over, even if I was unable to do it as directly as I liked.
We made our ways back to the castle thru the gates, and I waved the guards away. The night sky was still upon us, and I used it as an excuse to see Kali again, outside the walls.
I knocked on her door once before I remembered the dream I had and found my face growing redder as the flashbacks played in my brain. The door swiftly opened as I heard her say
"I knew I smelled you" her smile brought me back and I found myself smiling as well.
