Never been my mother's pride,
Just a mistake that contorts her face in disgust.
She longed for another.
Anyone but me,
Anywhere but me,
I was an ink blot on the perfect cursives of her pages.
Haunted by her memories,
Defined by her indifference,
Never needed anywhere for long,
This deep longing only humiliates me.
So, now I'm praying you don't cast me away,
Tell me I'm indispensable,
Hold me like you want me in,
Let my face be the last you see before night floods your vision.
There's an higher purpose lurking in the shadows,
Or, so my mind used to believe
But let me tell you,
There's never been a purpose higher than you,
Not since the day our paths crossed.
My formidable fortress makes you wary,
You are scared you'll never hold a place in
But the key to this castle is your love
The façade will fade brick by brick,
Your embrace is the medicine.
I'll be useful to you, even if the world deems me anything but
I'll stay by your side, even if the void looms in front of your eyes
Let my hand reassure you, this rupture only draws us near
Give me a place in that little beating center of yours,
I'll show you how irreplaceable you are in mine.
