Innocence is a burden

Pour your heart into it,
The glass never gets empty.
Now, my heart's squeezing out the last of the drops
And the glass remains half-filled.

If you love, you will try,
If you pretend to love, you will pretend to try.
How was little old me ever going to figure out the nuance?
Innocence is a burden,
Believing in the best demands strength;
So here I am with a label,
'Fragile, handle with care'

They say some friendships are just not meant to be,
Years ago, I was passionate in saying, "try us"
But now, there's only a defeated sigh,
A sad smile and a faraway look.

Maybe this label will protect my heart,
Or maybe, my heart is still bold in its ways.
Maybe I'll look back at what you used to be,
Or maybe, we will look back on this phase,
Laugh it off and keep each other in our hearts.

Until then.

Yours,
Me.
