3: ASH

Oh, Hello. Ash here. I know right? Whose balls did I suck so hard and so good to get my very own POV. I can't tell you right now but his name ends with a letter X. Anyway, I've got brothers to take care of, a job to seek and aswangs to kill.

Sorry about that. Let's continue the story, shall we? As the oldest brother, I had to hold my emotions all together. Especially I saw strange-looking man when I passed by the murder scene earlier. I got my insurance ID from Zarraga and headed back to Nueva Bonifacio.

The next few days were going to be positive. I could feel it. Don't ask me why...I could just feel it.

I applied on several companies but I only received the initial interview through phone yesterday. I knew it wouldn't be easy to start over in Nueva Bonifacio.

Despite all that, I liked to live more in town, the morning fog over the mountains, the tranquility of afternoon, and the weird crickets at night.

"Hold the door, please!" I said as soon as I saw the elevator was closing in. The guy in the elevator caught it with his hand. "Thank you."
But I had been too distracted by the news on Facebook about the murder. As if the dead itself was calling him. Help him.

Just a few weeks ago Nueva has become an industrial hub. Now we have murder.
The man took the Nueva Bonifacio publishing calling card and examined it further if he got the correct room and the correct floor. Ash fixed his gaze at the number 7.
"You work as a local editor?" the man asked. He was wearing a black buttons down and black pants. A red-violet tuxedo was hanging on his arm.

"No,uh, not yet. I'll have an interview today."
His phone rang.
Jasper's number appeared. He fished it out and answered.
"Kuya, you really need to go here at my school!" Jasper said in an anxious voice.
"Why, what happened?"
"I accidentally pushed Rosie into the pond."

Oh, the trouble this kid brings...
I composed myself, trying not to get mad at my little brother. "I'll get you right there, okay buddy? I'm on my way to my job interview, can we talk about this later? I wasn't even sure if I'm equipped for this position." I said impulsively. It came louder than I thought.
Jasper's voice began to distort in the phone, the signal was probably cutting the line.

"Jasper?" Ash said. "Jasper?"
After I clicked end, I looked over at the man beside him who was smiling casually. I shot back a curt smile. That was so embarrassing.

The elevator was slow. I had his interview before 9. It was 8:20. I needed to be there. So, I thought of something. More like a wish. I fixed his eyes at the numbers.

Then, the door jolted upward. The light flickered on the numbers. People in the elevator clamored, scratching their heads why it didn't move to their respective floors.
The elevator halted at the seventh floor.
"I think it's your lucky day, sir." The man beside me said cheerfully.
With everything that lingers in my mind, my luck would be lethal to anyone.

I placed a hand on my temple and I found myself smiling. I proceeded to the lobby.
"It's Mr. Vasquez, right? I'm Ms. Enriquez." the front desk asked. She wore an all black formal attire. "Right this way sir."

The hallway had glossy white paintings all over the walls that stretched for a bit longer. There was an intersection at the center before they stopped at the dark gray double doors.

"I've seen your resume, I'm very impressed, you're still 24. But I have to tell you he has already blown three applicants away. Mr. Tiago is interested in your experiences at Wenwar Publishing. Even they trashed you. Why were they against you, anyway?"

"Long story short." said. "Shattering their ego was the only fun I've had this year. Plus, Reggie is my ex."
Ms. Enriquez laughed, understanding my story. "Got it. Are you ready?"
