"I never knew that witchers could have such big library at home." Trevor wandered his gaze around the library, from the ancient texts to the current ones. I didn't even notice that we owned a first edition of Jurassic Park.
The front text of the book had a cute note.
For Jessica, who always love dinosaurs—Lando Vasquez
I blushed. That was so sweet from dad.
"Well, dad used to work at the government office." Ash said. "They tripled your salary. He invested his money to rebuild this before I was even born."
"Your dad is a lucky man. It's difficult to get into the government." Trevor traced his fingers at the sword of Frederic Juanico.
"It's really sure that you have bigger salAsh than in private companies.""I know." he said softly. "Have you ever taken the civil service exam?"
"Not yet."
"Where do you work? I've seen you around the plaza last Friday I think." He said.
"So, you were following me until you saw me again at the burger stall?"
A playful smile was on his lips. "Why would you ask?"He was answering me questions with questions. I shook my head. "I had a feeling you were."

he room felt smaller than it was, as if the very air had thickened with the tension hanging between them. I stood by the window, my back half-turned, arms crossed tightly against my chest.
I was staring out at the clouds as if the world outside offered me an escape from the pressure building inside. But the truth was, I could feel every second that passed in his presence, could sense his eyes on me even though he hadn't said a word.
"I was because the situation in this town had gotten a lot worse since your mom..." There was a pity in his voice. "died. I'm sorry for your loss, Ash."
That was the first time I heard him say my name."That's okay. I got over it." I lied. I drew a sharp breath.
Trevor didn't look at me but he said. "So, where do you work? I'm working as an editor at the Nueva Bonifacio Publishing House. They offer a lot of benefits."
Trevor smiled. "That's nice."
"What about you? Where do you work?"
His eyes flickered in amusement. "I tried call center once. It sucks. I quit a month later. But right now, I'm tutoring the mayor's daughter. She's six years old. And I'm also a temporary job order at the new municipal building.""Then you should take a civil service exam! Even if you're subprofessional, it could land you to a regular job in any government offices."
"You're really encouraging a demon to take a human exam. I bet you can pass too if you take it."
"Maybe I can. Do you have any other reason why you're here?"
Trevor assessed me. "Witchers have skills that I needed. I saw your magic last night, you have fire magic. No Witchers can ever summon flames like that.""I'm rare, huh?"
"You're truly one of a kind. And I need you three in this. I've had some personal business with the aswangs."
"What do you need?""You'll learn when the time comes. Aswang doesn't give a crap about demons. Actually, we are alike. Backstabbing each other, shifting loyalties, and hungry for dominance." Trevor said.
"There are at least other witchers out there that suits—"
"Maybe there are but you're the only one I can fully trust. You're new, and you're still learning about the hidden world""Trust is a big word, Trevor. It can be easily break and can't be fixed."
"You're not the only one who had experience betrayals, little witcher." A burning hate seared into his eyes. "I have too."
"I'm not the preferred candidate for your satisfaction."Trevor chuckled. "You are the perfect candidate. Maybe you're more than what you think. You are born with a rare magic. Flame users are rare in this world."
