Dylan and Zade picked me up at school while I was copying an assignment from Frankie. Then we rushed back home. I was so alarmed by their panic. We rode a tricycle. A common public ride that consist of a motorcycle and a passenger cab attached to it. At each passing second, I felt unease. As if someone was watching me.

I've seen a ghostly figure at the hallway earlier but I didn't mind it. I mean who would believe you if you saw a white lady? Your classmates would just laugh at you. The moment we enter the house, Ash was sitting on the couch.

"Oh Thank goodness you're here!" He gave us a quick hug.

"Okay, so let's try not to panic." Dylan said as calm as he could.

"Dylan what is going on..." My words faltered as soon as I saw the end of his ears shifting into a point.

"Some thing's coming." He was talking to Zade.

"Dylan..."

"We're not panicking." Zade said but his face was about to blow up some panic.

"Dylan..."

"Well, we all feel safe inside the house and—" Dylan said.

"Dylan!" I raised my voice.

All of them looked at me. "Why is your ears becoming a little pointy."

"Oh it's not—" He touched the side of his ear which was now fully becoming pointed. "Oh boy, the sight is wearing off."

"The sight?"

"The supernatural world cannot be seen not unless you're gifted with it. You could see past the glamour of any supernatural creature. It's starting to fade. Most Witchers are born to have the ability to see through the glamour."

"You're something else." I uttered because there was a weird sensation curling in my stomach. Why was I different? I could see through the sight now and I could immediately tell what kind Dylan was...but I couldn't know what. I hadn't scrolled through the Grimoire. "What are you?" I asked.

"I'm a..."

"Dude, spill!" Zade said.

"I'm a Faerie."

"Um, guys? Did I miss something out?" Ash said.

The night had gotten even hotter, and having your entire family panic over something you couldn't comprehend didn't help much.

Zade slid his finger through the Aswang word. Ash stood. "What do you know, Dylan?" He asked Dylan, who was leaning against the wall.

Dylan was taken aback. "Ash..."

"Tell us" Ash said.

Dylan shut his eyes and took a pause. "Do you know why your mom died?"

Zade's eyes shifted at him. "What?"

"What is our mom have to do with this?" I asked.

"There wasn't any car accident. She started it. Your mom was fighting an aswang, she dragged them along with her. Burn them with her." I could see tears glistening in Dylan's eyes.
"Why?" Ash's voice trailed a bit.

"Because she was keeping a secret."

"Isn't it about us?" Zade asked.

"I don't know but I have a feeling something big is going on here. The stories that your parents told you about monsters and demons." He looked down at the book. "They exist."

It was giving us all a headache. Zade and Ash shook their head at the same time. They had enough of this madness. I was chewing the inside of my lip. So much was happening and yet the world was unmoving.

"Dylan—" I began.

"in those stories he told you how an ancient magic activated a group of warriors to protect the world from these evil forces—"

"Dylan, please stop." Ash muttered.

"and sometimes they are known as Witchers."

I clenched and unclenched my jaw. "What's really going on, Dylan?" The three of us had our eyes on Dylan.

"You three are Witchers. Your parents were too. And newly activated Witchers are attracted to monsters. You are drawn to them before you get strong enough to fight back."

"Oh fuck" Zade cursed. "You mean we activated our powers last night? That's nice!"

Ash and I glared at Zade.

"It's your destiny. It's always a part of who you are. I just—" Dylan resumed.

"Why are you telling us this?" I asked.

"This is happening a lot faster than I anticipated. You have to understand that this is real. That you are—"

"That's insane! We're not some magical beings. There's no such thing as aswangs. There's no such thing as magic." I said.

"Woah, Woah, Woah time out." Ash said. "We're Witchers. You're a faerie and there are monsters. And everybody's okay with this?"

"I'm okay with it!" Zade said enthusiastically.

"Are you mad, brother?" I asked.

"Oh God" Ash put his palm on his face. "We're so screwed."

But before Dylan could answer, something loud thud on the roof. As if a big bird had landed perfectly. "An aswang." Dylan's breath shuddered. I didn't like how he said that. He knew these monsters better than we do. We had no choice but to defend ourselves. Our family.

I shifted uncomfortably, no longer looking quite so skeptical. "You're saying they're targeting us now?!"

Dylan nodded. "Exactly. In the daylight, they blend in. You'd pass one in the market or on the street and never know it. But when they're ready, when they've marked their prey... they'll strike. Maybe it's with a blade, or maybe they wait until dusk, when their true form gives them an edge. But don't think for a second that the sun makes you safe."

Arie's voice was barely above a whisper now. "How do you stop them?"

"You fight smart," Dylan said, his eyes narrowing as though he had fought an Aswang before. "They fear fire, salt, and certain herbs—garlic, ginger. But if one's coming for you, don't expect it to fight fair. Be glad that you three are a mandirigma. You have imbued a mystical strength. You guys need to use your power against them."

"Impeccable timing" Zade said.

"But we don't know how!" I protested.

"There are weapons hidden at the storage room." Dylan said. "Your mom kept it just in case if an aswang attacks."

"You have to help us defeat these creatures, Dylan." Ash said grimly, reaching out for his arm. "I know you can help us."

Dylan didn't fight back. He just nodded.
He lifted his hand and snapped his fingers, light burst out from his hand.

Magic.
