I cooled my head down after that argument. We bought some food at the nearby 7/11 store. Just a few miles from our house. The only convenience store from the outskirts of the town surrounded by rice fields and the woods. The night was drowned in spookish cricket noises and the moon cast upon the shadows of the mountains. Few stars twinkled brightly in the sky.
While picking up some biscuits from the shelf, Trevor began to talk about the danger of risking our lives to the aswangs. He was on the other side of the shelf.
He paused for a moment and then ignore the argument. "Do you have a biscuit over there?"
"Yeah. I have combo."
I barely moved because boxes were piling on the way when suddenly a bag of chips flew through the air and slammed on my head. He chuckled on the other side.
"You want to fight, demon?" I demanded.
"Yes, little witcher."When we reached the end of the row. We were face-to-face with each other.
I grabbed him by the collar. "Shut up or, I'll punch you until your mouth bleeds."
"Okay, same rules applied but I..." He slowly leaned forward to my face as his lips formed into a kiss.
"Back off!"Trevor's dark eyes were feral as he grinned at me. "Go ahead, little witcher. I'd like to fight a mandirigma."
"You never fought one?"
"Not yet." he said. "but if you want to volunteer, that would be awesome."
Does he love to tease me now? I threw the combo biscuit as swiftly as I could. His hand snapped to grab the biscuit mere inches from his nose.
"Will you please stop?" I said. "I know you came here in Nueva Bonifacio to mess with my family but your method is not working on me."
"Yeah? I'm just worried for safety, Ash. You know what could've happened if you didn't attack? Our plan would go smoothly."
"Jasper almost got killed!"
"If you don't want to mess up the mission, then do your job right."
"How can I trust you when you want us to live and let Jasper die?"
"You don't understand me, Ash!" Trevor's flaring gaze burned through mine. "Is this a joke to you? Don't you understand? You are in danger—"
"No, you don't understand me, Trevor!" Tears pricked my eyes as my voice quivered. "My brother could've died! I can't lose him! Not him!"
"And I can't lose you too!" He replied in full panic and desperation. He breathed out and his voice lowered into a whisper. "You are vital to this mission."
My cheeks burned. "Why care? Demons are creatures that I cannot reason with. Why would I fully trust one?" I snarled. Okay that was way out of line. "You could kill me in an instant."
"If that's what you think? Maybe it's coming from something else."
"We heard what Enrique said. You are a killer."
There was a flash of pain in Trevor's eyes before he regained his fierceness in a second. "You know nothing about what I went through, Ash. And there are things that I swear should've remained unknown. Ignorance is a bliss, I guess."
I sauntered halfway through the counter when he said. "Are you running away? Like you always have been?"
"Oh, I simply run away from toxic people and their spectacular dramas." A dazzling mock smile broke on my lips.
"Or have you been foolish to battle destiny? It was bound to happen."
The words settled in me like stones weighing me down to the bottom of the ocean. "Screw destiny, and what the hell are you babbling about?" I said defensively.
