Well, She's Determined

The next couple of days were hell for me. As a guy who likes to be up and active, being bedridden was torture. Sure, they let me go for little walks, but it wasn't enough. Lily, of course, was right there next to me when she wasn't in school. She brought me my homework and went through the notes she took with me. Though, she was far more touchy than usual. She was constantly as close as she could get to me, holding my hand or touching my forearm. And I can't even count the number of times she called me handsome or cutie. Honestly, it was throwing me through a loop.

The doctors told me I could go home at the end of the day, I would just need to have my aunt sign me out. Jace had called my parents, but they were in the middle of an important business deal, I guess. He told me that they would be back the following week to check in on me and maybe sick around long enough for the championship game in two weeks. Granted, we haven't even had the playoff match yet. That was to come tomorrow. The doctor told me that as long as I didn't get to worked up, I could go and support the team.

It was getting to be the end of the school day, and I knew Lily would be here soon. She and her parents had brought me some stuff last night. Clothes to wear home, my deodorant as according to her, the bed baths weren't doing shit for my stank, and some protein bars to get my strength back up. While the hospital food isn't that bad, they still weren't great. Hitting the call light, I waited for a nurse, wanting to get changed as I knew my aunt would be here shortly after Lily, and I just wanted to get home.

Once the nurse came in and helped me to the bathroom to change, I could hear Lily walk in. "How is he today?" I could hear her question the nurse. "Really good. He is getting changed to head home." I could hear her respond as I pulled my pants on. I slang my shirt over my shoulder and put the deodorant on before walking out, figuring the nurse would want to check my wound one more time before I leave. As soon as I stepped out, I could see Lily giving me a smile that could drop me in seconds, but I managed to keep my composure.

"Hey, handsome." She stated in a tone that sent shivers down my spine. "Sup, Lil?" I questioned, trying to hide how flustered I felt. I could see her eyes narrow slightly, though she quickly changed her expression. "Ready to get out of here? Jace is bringing Chinese takeout over for us for dinner." She informed me, making me raise a brow at her. "Is Amy coming as well?" I asked as I sat on the bed, and the nurse slowly started taking my bandage off. "Duh, Jace said he would stay the night with you to make sure you are okay. The team is really excited to have you back at school."

Chuckling lightly, I shook my head and glanced back at her as the nurse lightly cleaned the wound. "I'm sure they are." I quipped just as my Aunt walked in. "Hey, sweetie. I already signed the discharge papers, so once she is done, we can take off." She stated with a smile. "Hey Aunty V. That sounds like a plan." I stated, giving her a light smile. Valerie, my aunt, was polar opposite my mom in looks. She had strawberry blonde hair, olive skin, green eyes, and a soft face. People often questioned if they were actually sisters, as I got my black hair and blue eyes from my mom. She was also very tan and had sharper features.

"I dropped off some groceries at the house and caught you up on your laundry." She teased, smiling as she watched the nurse work. I rolled my eyes but smiled, "Thanks, Aunty." I chuckled out as the nurse applied a new bandage to both my abdomen and my back. I hadn't noticed that Lily had already gathered up all of my things into a bag on the bed, smirking at me as she watched me put my shirt on. "Shall we?" She questioned, winking at me before heading to the door. Raising a brow, I let out a breath and followed her, Val walking beside me as we headed for the exit.

"Is there something you need to tell me... about Lily?" I heard my aunt question with a slight teasing tone. Shaking my head as we slowly made our way to the parking lot, I replied, "Nope. She's just being... odd." I whispered back not wanting Lily to hear. "You sure about that?" I heard her chuckle out. "She's infatuated because I saved her... it will pass." I grumbled out, only to have her nudge me. "Don't be dumb, nephew. I'll see you next week when your parents get back. I need to have words with them." She stated before hugging me and walked off to her car.

Turning, I saw Lily tossing the bag into the back seat of her car before getting into the driver's seat, unsure of how to feel about this. Closing the distance to her car, I got in and leaned the seat back, not wanting to agitate my wound. Feeling the car start to move I rested my arm on the center console and looked out the window, smiling at the sight of the trees going by.

I was nearly lost in my thoughts when I felt Lily take my hand in hers, intertwining our fingers in a firm grasp. "I'm happy you're doing better." She said softly, giving my hand a light squeeze. "Same." I stated quietly, trying to think of a reason to pull my hand away without looking like a massive ass. As if on que, my phone buzzed in my pocket. Internally sighing in relief, I pulled my hand from hers and fished my phone from my pocket, checking the message that was on it. "Jace says hurry up, or the food will be ate by the time we get there." I chuckled out, putting my phone back in my pocket and my hands in my lap.

I could sense her sadness at the fact that I didn't put my hand back, but I didn't want to encourage the idea she had in her head. I wanted her to come to her senses, to realize what was really going on with her. I just really hoped that she realized it soon.
