Maddie woke up the next morning on a mission. She grabbed her phone before she got out of bed and spent some time deciding where she wanted to go. Florida looked nice. She wanted to see the Atlantic ocean and walk along the beach. With John. She sighed softly. She really did need to push him out of her mind.

She could fly, though she was partially tempted to drive. It would be fun to see the open road. Like John had. Why did everything have to remind her of him? She wondered what it would be like to take a road trip with him. How much fun it would be.

She'd give it some thought while she went down to breakfast. Maddie got dressed, and went ahead and packed a bag. She really needed some time to think everything through. The only thing she'd decided so far was that she wouldn't be tied up permanantly here. Not after the manipulation. She couldn't do it anymore.

After she ate breakfast and made her plans, she would inform her mother that she was leaving. She wouldn't be working tonight or maybe ever again. She sighed softly. And then she had to forget about John. Xavier. She still had a hard time thinking about him having that name, but that truly was who he was.

Xavier Remington. A man so far removed from who she was. A small town girl raised in a hotel. If she'd known who he was before she'd started dating him, she might have thought twice about getting involved with him. No. She still would have. That connection between them would have drawn her to him. Though he might have thought twice about being with her.

Maddie left her bag in her room and headed down to the kitchen. She took a deep breath and walked inside, wondering what Andre knew about John. Xavier. Did she really want to know anything else about him? Yes. She couldn't help herself.

Andre was standing in his usual spot, and he looked up and smiled at her. "Morning, Miss Maddie."

"Morning, Andre." She walked over to him.

He dished her up a plate of eggs and bacon and handed it to her. "How are you?'

"Pissed. You won't believe what my mother did." She took the plate and sat down.

"I already know."

Maddie looked up at him. Why didn't that surprise her? "You do?"

He nodded grimly. "I didn't agree with it, but I know. How did you find out?"

"Katie came back last night looking for John, who I guess is really Xavier Remington?" She turned and walked back over to sit down.

Andre followed her over and sat down across from her. "He is. Which still sort of blows my mind."

"Which means he's from the royal family, right?" Maddie asked. "From Regal Eclipse?"

"Yeah. He is. And Maddie, he's in line for the throne," Andre told her quietly.

What? Her John was in line for the throne? "Like, if something should happen to the king, he's in the line of succession? Is that what you mean?"

"Yes, but he's also in line for the throne. One day, he will be King. It's just a matter of when," Andre said. "Not if. Xavier Remington will be King of all Werewolves one day."

Maddie felt her heart drop even more at that. Her mate was going to be King one day? John? No, Xavier. She realized he might as well be a complete stranger to her. She felt like they were talking about two completely different people. "And he can't be mated to a human." She mumbled it, but she knew it was true.  Humans were weak compared to werewolves and Xavier would be incredibly powerful. She was so far beneath him, it wasn't even funny.

"I don't think so, Maddie. None of the Remington Family are mated to humans. I don't know if anything like this has ever happened before." Andre sat back and Maddie could see the sympathy in his eyes.
