I find myself smiling at the fact that Alex knew it was my birthday. Hundreds of people have wished me happy birthday today, but getting a text from her weirdly made me happy.
The day was mundane, seeming like any other. I've waited years for my 21st birthday, so spending it at physical therapy and watching practice, definitely felt like a bummer.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY" echos through the practice gym as I walk in, the girls approaching me, shoving me into a hug.
"What are we doing tonight, P?" Aaliyah asks me.
"Uh, nothing" I respond.
"We're not doing nothing on your 21st birthday" Azzi says, shaking her head.
"There's nothing to do" I say. "It's a Thursday"
"Cmon, we have to do something" Azzi pleads. "Why don't we all just hang out in our room tonight?"
"Yeah, yeah, okay" I say.
"We should invite the pretty cheerleader" Aubrey adds, smirking.
"What pretty cheerleader?" Aaliyah questions.
"Paige has a pretty cheerleader" Aubrey says.
"Paige does not have a pretty cheerleader" I respond, talking in the third person.
"Right, right. Paige wants the pretty cheerleader" Aubrey says, prompting me to smack her arm.
"She's coming" Nika says.
"What?" Aubrey and I say in unison.
"Yeah, I just texted her. She said her and Naomi will come when they're out of practice"
Aubrey punches my arm, a smile on her face. I can't help but smile too.
Practice dragged on for what felt like forever. I was supposed to be paying attention, studying the plays, but I couldn't focus on that right now. I was just excited to get out of there.
I walked into my dorm room with Azzi and Nika. Aubrey was running to the store to get drinks and the others will meet us in a little bit because they need to freshen up after practice.
The girls start to shuffle in and finally Aubrey returns with a few boxes of drinks and a cake.
