You picked up your babygirl in a haste before storming out of the room with her to see what was going on. Your mother shouted out "call an ambulance" and you couldn't help but feel your heart drop as panic washed over you.
Cillian was lying on the floor, at the bottom of the stairs, while Frank just stood there, looking down at Cillian with a mixture of disbelief and guilt etched on his face.
Mara's cries were echoing throughout the house as you handed her to your mother who, until now, had not held her before. You then immediately rushed towards Cillian, your heart racing with fear.
"Oh my god," you whispered, your voice shaking as you knelt down beside him, your hand reaching for his.
"Cillian, please, say something," you pleaded, tears streaming down your cheeks as he appeared to have lost consciousness for a short moment.
Cillian's eyes fluttered open, but his gaze was unfocused and dazed. "Cillian, can you hear me?" you asked, your voice trembling as you tried to hold back your tears.
He nodded weakly, wincing in pain as he tried to sit up.
"No, don't move," you told him, placing a gentle hand on his chest to keep him down. "We called an ambulance," you said, trying to reassure him.
Cillian nodded again, and you could see the relief in his eyes as he relaxed back onto the floor while Frank scrambled nervously, reaching for his coat.
Your mother had taken Mara to the other room, trying to calm her down as she cried and cried, the sound walking on pins and needles. Cillian's mother now stood there too, her hand covering her mouth, tears streaming down her face.
"What did you do Frank?" she asked, horror-stricken, as she looked from Frank to Cillian. Frank appeared visibly shaken, his hands shaking as he reached for his car keys.
"I don't know," he then muttered, his voice barely above a whisper, looking just as terrified as the rest of them. "I need to leave. I can't stay here," Frank stammered, his voice barely above a whisper. He looked around the room, his gaze lingering on Cillian for a brief moment before he turned and walked out the door.
Cillian struggled to keep his eyes open , wincing in pain as he tried to sit up again.
"No, don't move," you told him again, your voice firm as you tried to hold back your tears. "Please," you added, pleading with him to stay still.
Cillian nodded weakly, wincing in pain as he lay back down on the floor. You could see the beads of sweat forming on his forehead, and you knew that he was in pain. But still, he managed to give you a small smile, which only caused your heart to race with fear.
"I'm okay," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "It's fine," he sighed and you nodded, trying to believe his words, but deep down, you knew that something was seriously wrong.
You could see it in his eyes, the way they were unfocused and glassy, the way they kept fluttering closed even as he tried to keep them open.
"Where the fuck is this goddamn ambulance?" you heard yourself shouting, your voice cracking with fear as you clutched Cillian's hand tightly. You could feel his pulse growing weaker with each passing second, and the fear that was gripping your heart was like nothing you had ever experienced before.
Cillian's mother was standing nearby, her hand still covering her mouth as tears streamed down her face. "He's going to be okay," she kept repeating, but her voice was shaking, and you could see the fear in her eyes too.
Eventually though, the sounds of sirens filled the air, and you let out a sigh of relief as the ambulance finally arrived. The paramedics rushed inside, quickly assessing Cillian's condition before carefully loading him onto a stretcher. You followed close behind, holding his hand tightly as they rushed him out the door and into the back of the ambulance after your mother promised to take care of Mara for you.
