❛ and if you need to believe in someone, turn and look behind ❜

𝑇𝐻𝐸 𝐸𝑁𝑇𝐼𝑅𝐸 𝐺𝑅𝑂𝑈𝑃 𝐴𝑊𝐴𝑅𝐸 of the Upside Down had gone back to the Byers' house so that they could brainstorm and regroup. They needed to figure out what the natural next steps here were, but they too had all been through a lot; some more than others.

Joyce had just lost the man she was in love with in quite a brutal way while Jonathan and Will had just lost their step-father. Will, of course, was unconscious and suffering because of the creature in his system, but he wasn't the only one there haunted. Jacqueline had witnessed everything she despised, everything that traumatised her wrapped up into one building. Jacqueline never thought she would have to step foot into that lab again, see that isolating room again. That was the reason her hearing was so strangely sensitive, why she was claustrophobic, why she was cursed by fire.

Will was laying on the couch where Jonathan sat by his side, visibly upset that he failed to protect his brother. Nancy stood behind him, showing sympathy for both. While Hopper was on the phone with the state police, attempting to get them to head down to the Hawkins Lab, Mike, Dustin, Max, and Lucas were sitting at the kitchen table with Wesley standing by the wall near the chief.

Steve was leaning on the kitchen counter, continuously fidgeting nervously by tapping his fingers against his crossed arms. He had been waiting for Jacqueline to join them once more since he was still worried about her and how she was taking everything.

Jacqueline had gone to see Joyce in her bedroom to make sure she was alright, or at least dealing with it in a healthy way. Joyce had known the girl for a long time seeing as how she and Jonathan were friends for years. Joyce always did like Jacqueline and was aware that her eldest son felt something for her, it was painfully obvious, but she never judged. Joyce did not believe any rumour she would hear, she never was estranged by the scars, and both of her sons were outcasts, so she wasn't going to turn this girl away simply because she was one too.

While Hopper was still on the phone, Steve watched as Jacqueline emerged from the hallway. She immediately headed over to Jonathan, Nancy, and Will, who was still unconscious. She had a special connection with Will, one no one there could ever understand since no one else had been trapped in the Upside Down for days.
