*Third Person’s POV*:-
The dull room was full of people. But no one dared to talk, everyone seemed grim except for two old men who stood beside each other talking like long lost friends- Suresh Vyaas and Abhiraj Rajput.
Others were all quiet, spoke only when required. There were a few whispers heard from the females as Naina Rajput passed a platter to her mother-in-law Komal Rajput.
With a formal smile on her face Komal forwarded the platter to Lilavati Vyaas, the bride’s grandmother who accepted it with another formal smile. The passing the parcel took place over the head of a gloomy faced Nishtha.
She had been sitting on the chair looking no where except on her lap. Her hair kept open and a red saree draped gorgeously on her mild curves.
A few more unheard murmurs passed around until a middle aged man came inside the room, “ Ranvijay is here.,” Viraj Rajput announced.
A chaotic whispering started which turned into pin drop silence with the sound of boots hitting on the wooden floor. That was the first time Nishtha looked up.
Her eyes fell on her to-be-husband in few seconds- Ranvijay Rajput. Dressed in a grey suit looking polished as ever he was busy on some call as indicated by the ear pod in his left ear.
Nishtha’s heartbeat slowed down and became louder. She could feel her chest pain slightly at the sight of the gorgeous male in front of her.
She immediately lowered her eyes realising that she was checking him out openly.
“Umm, Jayesh ji, thoda jaldi khatam kar lete hain procedure. Ranvijay ko flight ke liye kate horaha hain,” Vijay spoke with a hint of embatassment. “Koi bata nahi, sab ready hain hum shuru karte hain,” Jayesh said and the chaos started.
Nishtha stood up seeing her mom’s gesture and looked up to meet Ranvijay's cold eyes. She gulped at the gaze and lowered her eyes and took the garland in her hands.
She had to get on her toes to put the garland around Ranvijay’s neck noticing no show of courtesy from the man. As soon as she was done Ranvijay garlanded Nishtha in a swift business motion.
“Make her wear the nuptial chain now, we need to take a picture of it too,” Mr. Aaryan, the Advocate who had partook more divorces than marriages said.
Ranvijay forwarded his hand to his mother who was fumbling to find the nuptial chain which they had never bought.
Naina looked up embarrassed which a secret smirk appeared on Komal’s face. “I am sorry we have not got the nuptial chain,” Naina murmured.
“It’s okay, you can make her wear this old chain of hers.,” Smita said removing a thin gold chain and forwarding it to Ranvijay.
Picking the chain up and opening it carelessly Ranvijay tied it around Nishtha’s neck.
The mangalsutra was tied around her neck carelessly, not even trying to hook it properly. It was Nishtha’s mother who noticed her discomfort and separated the hook from her hair.
Nishtha’s heart twisted seeing her favourite chain being manhandled. She was a step away from stepping on Ranvijay's feet.
The sindoor was then loosely applied on the hair partition with some falling on the nose and in the eyes. Nishtha felt humiliated, she gulped down all her discomfort as she noticed the register being passed to her.
She blinked her eyes clean to get a view of the legal paper. “Marriage Registration” the words written in bold made her hands shiver as she placed the pen on the dash above her name.
Looking at Ranvijay who was reading the legal paper as if some book she looked back at the paper which decided her life ahead. Taking a breath she signed her name and consent in a go and put the heavy pen down.
To Ranvijay the 2 minutes of small ceremony felt as if a long process of years. He wanted to get over with this so-called Arranged Marriage. He had meetings to handle and this marriage was taking quite a lot of his precious time.
He did his signature on the paper. As soon as he was done he was took into a hug by his dadu, the person he was doing all this for. “Dadu main ab nikalta hu,” he whispered and left from there. Not even taking time to greet everyone else present.
Heck, he hadn’t even glanced at his wife who looked at his disappearing figure with waiting eyes.
“Iski padhai khatam hone ke baad hi Rajput Mansion bhejna,” were the words of Komal Singh Rajput that made Nishtha look up at her shocked. Her eyes never left the crowd until they went away.
The others had a short and formal congratulations passing around before they went on their way. The Rajputs were the first to leave from the Family Court, leaving behind the 18 year old new bride in a whirlwind of emotions.
