Chapter 24: Terminated
Brittany's POV:
I stare at the door as Talon informs us, "This side of the lab is lightly populated, but we still need to be careful."
I take a breath and Talon pushes the open button, causing the door to slide to the left. The walls are white, the floors are laminated white. Almost everything is white. We step out and Talon leads us left, our only option of direction.
Towards the end of the hall there is an opening on the right, so we get against the wall as Talon looks around to make sure the coast is clear. He moves back and has a dumbfounded look on his face.
"What?" I whisper.
"That looks nothing like the lab I remember." He reply's.
"Do you still know where to go?" I ask. He looks up at the signs and shakes his head no. He looks around again and growls under his breath.
Still, he takes off forward and we follow him, continuing down the hall. Almost to the end, we hear footsteps. Talon looks left, seeing the only door, and opens it, ushering us in.
He puts his ear on the door after shutting it and listens for them to disappear. I turn around and look in the small room.
"I think we found the storage." I tell him. He looks back at me and we see gas masks, coats, hazard suits, gloves, and everything else under the sun.
"Alright then. Everyone get a mask," He say's, "Keith, I'm going to need you to do something." Talon then takes a lab coat off of the rack, some doctors scrubs, and some gloves, handing them to him.
"What?" Keith asks hesitantly.
"I used to work here on this floor, but you didn't, and they'd easily recognize me. The chemical storage is out in the open on the far side of the room. I need you to dress as a doctor, trust me, they won't notice you with all this stuff on. I hope they don't, anyways. I'll give you the key and you will open the door to the storage. Once you're in, it automatically closes, so I need you to open the panel beside the door and pull the wires out. Once you do that, open the door manually and leave it open. Then come back, and we'll do the rest." Talon explains.
Keith yanks the coat from his grasp and grumbles to himself as he throws on the blue scrubs and mask on his head. He puts the coat along with everything else on. If you don't look closely you can't really recognize him.
"Ashton and Sawyer, light it up as soon as you hear the explosion, got it?" Talon confirms and they nod back.
With that said, as well as our goodbyes, we leave when the coast is clear. We head back and wait around the corner of the wall and Talon gives Keith the key. He puts it on the inside of his lab coat near his chest so it seems he is an Original. I watch as Keith causally walks in.
He goes to the storage and stands in front of the scanner. The door opens and he steps inside, and sure enough, it closes behind him. I watch and a few minutes later, the red light flickers out. Keith opens the door and I look behind him to see he did as told. He set a can of something flammable in shooting range.
All in the locker is vials of an amber colored liquid, then there's vials with spores in them. He walks out and makes his way back to us. A fellow doctor nods his head at him and he returns it. Once Keith is half way back, the other doctor looks back in confusion. Uh oh.
Keith rounds the corner and gets behind me.
"Get your masks on." Talon instructs as he finishes putting his on, then steps out from cover and aims. Screams go through the lab when he shoots and hits the tank dead on, causing it to explode. Just as suspected the people go running for their masks, but the room is already on fire.
