Chapter 25: Wasteland
(Author's Note: Hey guys, sorry I haven't updated like I usually do. Writer's block has been kicking me in the butt lately :p Not to mention I'm starting book three on one of my series. Anyway, I figured it out. So, here you go :) -Bri*
Brittany's POV: (Picture of Brittany's father, Caleb, above. If the picture is not visible please let me know.)
I continue to slip in and out of consciousness. I can't really tell where I am. It's like I'm in between sleep and reality. I hope this is a nightmare; I hope I wake up and I'm back in my old bed again. What I wouldn't give for that to happen.
I finally lift my head and look around with foggy eyes. It's like the pod I was kept in when I first got here, all metal all around me. The only difference is it's larger and it has all of the guys in here. It also has Zoey and Ally. When did they get here?
I look up and realize I'm being held upright. I quickly stand on my own and hiss when my wrists sting. A thick rectangular metal cuff is holding my wrists above my head, keeping me from moving, and it has a one inch thick wire attached to it, which is attached to the ceiling.
I try to pull it but it does nothing but dig into my already red and raw wrists. I look down and see nothing on my ankles, fortunately. Looking up I see a camera on the wall, and looking right I see a large glass wall that leads to a room just like this one, with a door in it, but with no one occupying the room.
To the left I see a large metal door; I'm beside it against the wall. I look around and see everyone else is still knocked out.
I get an idea that probably won't work, but it's worth it. This is going to hurt.
I reel my feet up with all my strength and groan when my wrists feel like they catch fire. I use the grip on my combat boots and try to pull the cable from the metal rectangular plate-like cuff, but it's useless. I let my feet fall and groan again.
Okay, maybe it wasn't worth it.
"Britt?" Zoey suddenly calls, just waking up.
I look in front of me and see her on the opposite side of the wall.
"What happened? What's going on?" She asks.
"I don't know," I reply, "But I'm getting us the hell out of here."
I prepare for pain again and swing my legs up, kicking at the door handle. I get in one kick and it opens to reveal an armed soldier. Well, four armed soldiers.
Caleb, whom I'm ashamed to call my father, steps through the door and looks around. He nods at the men and they all pull syringes, going over to the one's unconscious.
"Hey! What are you doing?!" I yell.
I get no reply as I continue to yell. A few seconds later and they all wake up. I relax and shut up when I realize it was just a reversal. Ashton shakes his head and looks at the man. He glares deadly and pulls on his cuff, trying to charge at him.
Caleb turns to me and stares with an emotion I'm all to familiar with. Disappointment. He holds his hand out and a soldier hands him a black gun, a futuristic style of which I'm not familiar with.
He points it to the center of my head and I flinch when I feel the cold metal touch my skin.
"No!" Talon yells, wrestling with his cuff.
"You know, I should kill you right about now. You destroyed my project. I'm disappointed in you." He claims. I glare at him, having a lot to say but no will to say it.
