Chapter 13: The City

Brittany's POV:

"Well, who's the fastest?" Sawyer asks.

"Depends on how far we have to run." Keith announces.

"Depends on what's on the other side of that door." I retort.

"So, fastest with the longest stamina; That would be Keith." Marcus states, Sawyer nodding in agreement.

"Alright," I sigh, "This is what I have in mind: Keith, you will stand beside the garage door. Marcus, Sawyer, and I will lock ourselves in here and kill the lights. It should be daytime outside. Praying these things don't see us ducked back here, I'll open the doors. The very second you can fit under the garage door, you take off and find a near by hiding place.

"We'll be watching you from the window. You will get a look around for a few seconds, then point either left, right, or behind you that is the best way for us to go. And after that, if they don't just wander out like I'm hoping most of them will, you will fire the gun but don't come out from hiding. The noise should lure them out. We will sneak out of the room and take off running, they shouldn't see us come out since it will be dark in here."

"Then what?" Marcus asks.

"Then we haul our carcasses out of here and find a place for the night." I reply.

"It might work, but what if they can see in the dark?" Sawyer asks.

"Well, I guess we're screwed." I reply.

"Since when were you so brave?" Sawyer asks cockily, smirking at me.

I answer him with all seriousness, "Since the moment I ran into that Savage and realized a coward won't make it a day in this place." I fess up. That Savage scared me to no extent, and the thought of that being someone I know scares me even more.

"You need to wrap this around your tracker." Keith suddenly interrupts, handing me a white cloth. I don't protest, knowing he's right, as I tie it on my arm, but not tight enough to stop circulation.

Keith then picks up his pistol, "Well, see you on the other side. No matter how it turns out." He grumbles the last part under his breath, heading for the garage door.

I shut the door behind him and lock it, putting a chair underneath the handle just in case. I let out a sigh when he reaches the end of the hall, crouched beside the door.

I hold up the "ok" symbol and he gives one back, so I look over and see Sawyer ready at the breaker.

"Ready?" He asks.

"Never." I reply. He smirks and pulls the breaker, setting us in total darkness, nothing but the red lights guiding us like an airplane path. I let out a breath and pull the lever, the garage door automatically beginning to screech as it opens.

With a loud beep, I watch as all of the red lights turn green and hear the doors slide open, then I see Keith slip under the opening, taking off. We all immediately duck, watching as the creatures walk out of their pods.

About a third of them haul butt out of the garage door, but the rest simply wander around on the main floor. I watch and see Keith in the window of a building on the second story. He points left, then points behind him.

He does this about three times to make sure we see him; So he wants us to go left, the make a right going behind him. I think he wants us to meet him in that building. The entrance must be on the other side.

Moments later and a gunshot rings out and Keith ducks. A lot of them let out odd noises as the run outside to investigate. A few minutes later and they're all cleared out.
